Trying to think of any current or former Cowboys player within the last ten years who performed better after signing a new contract? Can't think of anyone, but perhaps it's an old age brain fog.

Maybe Martin several years ago, but he is not playing well under his latest contract extension.

Martin old. His contract has nothing to do w/ his declining play.

This is generally true everywhere in the NFL. Why? Basically, a player signs a huge contract after 4-5 years in the league. Players enter the league around the age of 22. A player's prime is generally 24-28. Sooooooooooooo, by the time a new contract is signed, most players are about to start declining.

However, Jerry passes out new contracts in an extremely stupid way. Too early, too late, non-deserving, just dumb, you name it.

He literally got an extension with a bad back and retire right after what the hell lol?
The extension was done to push money down the road, which Jerry desperately needed due to gross mismanagement of the salary cap previously.

I don’t think so but I’ve stated this in the past guys don’t get paid and get better.

Think about it.

A football players prime is in his early 20s. They are signed on a rookie deal for about 4 or 5 years. By that point they are 26 or 27. The average nfl career is only 3 or 4 years. For elite stars I’d say it’s a little longer.

By the time it’s time for guys to get paid their prime physically is over. They will never be as good as they were at 22.

I think for quarterbacks it’s the exception. We saw Romo and Dak have their best careers in their 30s and real up All Pros.

But this is how it goes. Patriots understood it which is why they rarely re-signed guys.l except Brady and their linemen.

Same as Dak. It’s literally the same situation. Romo got a contract with a bad back and career was over soon after.

It's not about getting better. Moreso maintaining a standard of play. Plenty of players around the league do it. Seems dallas is one if the teams who have the most declines after pay.

The question asked was is there a player who performs better. Not maintain a standard.

I don’t see it any more frequent than anyone else. Guys get paid and tail off. Happens all the time. You ever seen the Cowboys let someone go and they go on to be better? It’s the NFL not the NBA.

Correct. Look at a couple players we paid:

Jaylon: Could only turn one way.
Crawford: Rotational type we paid as a starter.
Diggs: Good playmaker, but poor in coverage.
Dak: Can't read a D, especially post snap.
Zeke: He was still under contract and a decline was coming.
DLaw: Good player, but we paid him like a top 5 player, which he isn't. Also needed surgery which he refused until we signed him. Sick.
Lamb: Good player, just not worth 2nd best in the NFL contract.
Matin: Declining player. Should've been traded

That is a lot of bad contracts just in the last few years.
