I believe that the injury was in the 1972 preseason. Remember Roger was battling Craig Morton until the middle of the 1971 season to win the starting job and to take us to our first Super Bowl win.

He was definitely hurt in '72, but I don't remember the circumstances.

Preseason Rams game is all I remember. AdamK remembers more.

Wiki says he missed most of '72 with a separated shoulder.

As I recall, Roger lowered his head and tried to blast this LB for some extra yardage close to the endzone. Wound up in the hospital instead.

He learned to duck after that. Rodger the Dodger became Duck Dodger if you will.

thanks guys, i thought i was mckeever something, but wasnt for sure, appreciate it guys, im studying for the cowboys contest

He definitly learned something after that. He talked about how Landry ignored him for the last part of the year and later told him that he knew Staubach had to learn to not try and run over people if he wanted to be a QB.

he missed basically the entire yr but came back for the playoffs and engineered one of the first magic moments of his career when he rallied us past the Niners on the road
