Has anyone replaced or removed the oil pan on a 2011 jeep grand cherokee 3.6L V6? If so, what does it entail? My oil pan is rusted enough that no one will change my oil because they are afraid the plug removal will break the pan. I won't either until I know what the effort is to replace the pan if it does break.

I will probably take it to a shop and get an estimate tomorrow. If it's too much I will give the car to a charity or sell it as is. The lower pan is about 50 bucks. If is isn't too much work I might do it myself, but not if it involves lowering the suspension or lifting the engine. I don't have the equipment or inclination to tackle that job. But if I can pull the pan without moving anything else around, the car may be worth the $50 cost of a pan.

Thanks for any advice you can lend.

I bet you can YouTube it

Some are skeptical of that, but I've done it for about 200,000 miles on a couple of cars.
Don't know if it's true or not but I've heard some of the quicky oil change places do it this way routinely.

So I took it to a local auto repair guy in my town and he looked at it. After like 2 minutes he called me back into the shop to show me an oil pan that was totally rusted. Chunks of rusted metal were peeling off and it looked like the oils was literally seeping out of the pan from the rust. I've never seen an oil pan rust out like that. Did you ever see one of those old cheap charcoal BBQ grills you buy in the grocery stores or 5 and dime store after its been left out in the ria for a summer and the bottom rusts out until you can poke a hole in it with a grill fork? That's my oil pan! LOL I didn't think to take a picture but I was stunned at how the pan was so corroded. I get the oil changed every 3000 miles or about every 4 months and no one ever said anything about how the pan was rusting.

Anyway the gut told me it could cost about $250 for the pan and labor, plus whatever the new oil costs. The pan comes right out, no engine lifting or suspension dropping required. I should get the car back in about an hour and then I start me new car search!

That’s definitely a price I would gladly pay to not do it myself.

Me too. There was a time when I would do that, even in winter. But not anymore. Now I have no inclination to suffer the discomfort of getting under a car on the garage floor when it's 30 degrees outside. It seems every time my car has a problem it is winter or very cold.
