I just mentioned this in another thread...the story being told on the Ticket was from someone connected with Pittsburgh. The Cowboys were ready to take Shazier, and called his agent to tell him, who informed them that the Steelers had just made him their pick.

That makes sense. The phone call that Stephen slammed the phone down on and brought the whole room down, was such a short call, it didn't really look like a trade haggling call that they didn't get what they wanted. Stephen had some really choice words as he slammed the phone down, made me wish I could read lips.

I don't see how that's possible. The phone call I am talking about was during our pick. Pitt picked before us.

Something else to consider when you are watching that war cam and also watching ESPN or NFLN draft...Both ESPN and NFLN were behind showing the picks many many times.

CBSSports draft tracker was putting the picks up well before some of the announcements were being shown on TV...Well at least well before the ESPN one but I think also the NFLN one as people in chat that were watching both did not know the picks.

Here is an example.

On the TV it was showing the Pick was in for the Chicago Bears (did not announce which pick yet) while on CBS Sports they already showed the Bears Pick, already had the steelers set as Pick is In and had the Cowboys started on the clock.

So when watching the war cam and you see them on the phone while the tv is showing a pick or two before us...it does not mean that is in real time so it might be hard to gauge what is going on concerning if they are upset about a pick being taken before them and so on.

I think we came out of the last minute scrambling for defensive talent with an amazingly good alternative in Zack Martin. We'll get another chance to rectify our defensive shortcomings tonite. Just keep your fingers crossed for the smart decisions to continue.

I'm speculating here, but I think Cleveland probably offered the same deal to move to 13 as they gave the Eagles at 22--their third round pick--and the Cowboys refused it. The warroom's disappointment could stem from not being offered Cleveland's second.

At any rate, I am very glad they stayed put and picked Martin. Had they traded back, I don't know if they would have picked Darqueze Dennard or reached for Dee Ford, Ealy, or (heaven forbid) Marcus Smith. But I know I would much rather have Martin in the first than any of those guys.

I think this is a GREAT pick, you can not complain about it! Plug him next to Tyron, and maybe next year throw him at RT. I wanted Barr, but Martin was very close 2nd, for me.

No, they were going LB n Pitt took him.

I thought that was kind of high for Shazier. And they're going to play him inside? Big difference from the days their ILB's were 250lbs.

I have never seen Jerry act so depressed when making a pick. For all the credit that posters are giving him for making the pick, it is a pick that he didn't want to make. I think his facial expression said it all . He was no more excited to draft Martin then I was from hearing it and I was not excited in the least bit.

yeah being excited about a pick is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO important

So what you guys are saying is Jason Garrett is the Triple H of the Dallas Cowboys... He's flirting with the Stephanie McMahon of Jerry Jones...

It actually looked the other way around, i.e. she was flirting with him.

Jerry was mad he couldn't trade down. We thought we had a deal with CLE until they changed their mind at the last minute. That is what gave Jerry the sour attitude.

I assumed there was a delay from the streaming device to the war room camera by a minute or two. I think it was about Shazier being gone. They didn't start clapping and shaking hands till a min or two after pick was announced on ESPN

Agree the TV feed was off. In many cases the pick showed up here on this blog before the announcement on TV. Kudos to the contributors to the Blog, and why I like this spot over others.

I think that's it.
Smart (and lucky) move in the end by Cleveland but a gamble as someone else could have nabbed Manziel between 16 and 22.

My guess is that we wanted a 2nd or (more likely) a 3rd and 4th from Cleveland for them to go up to 16.
So by giving Philly only the 3rd rounder to go to 22, Cleveland saved a 4th rounder in the process.
