How can a writer be unavailable to vote? Is he in the hospital or something? With the number of computers and IPhones and such, how can a member of the AP not have someway of voting?

he was the best rookie in the league, he didn't take anything that helps make that possible, he took a homeopathic medicine to cut weight.

the NFL need to drop the weight garbage on a team level, or they need to cut guys like cushing a break for trying to make weight.

Why would Cushing have to worry about weight? What would he be doing to have himself so desperate to meet a prescribed weight? I haven't heard a single word from the coaching staff or the owner coming to Cushing's rescue saying it's their fault by having Cushing adhere to their weight policy.

coaches are ******** for fining for weight on players who don't have a weight problem.

this is an NFL culture problem, a pound means nothing on sunday, but it means 10k or more on weigh ins.

Most weight limits are set by coaches who know their players and know this issue can get out of hand.

The morons made it a problem. Cushing shouldn't pay for them being inept and having moronic rules. If you weigh 245 no fine and I know you will play amazing on sunday, 246 and you won't and I am going to charge you 10 grand.

Again most coaches won't fight or quibble over 1 or 2 pounds. They just want to make sure the trend doesn't go the wrong way.

Of course the players cut weight, the morons with the weights are to blame for all this.

If there is anyone to blame for this it's the countless players from high school to the pros who want to participate in football and feel it is acceptable to walk into their programs with weight issues.

Look no further than a guy we use to have on the team - Aaron Gibson. Hey what about the much maligned Jamarcus Russell?

As an NFL team paying out the type of money they do they have all the right to expect a certain physical ability and standard from their players. It's their investment not yours.

A player is a player on sunday, get rid of this idiotic weight garbage.

Lazy dudes are lazy dudes, stop punishing everyone.

Rules are an acceptable mode of control in society. You see them everywhere. From speed limits to criminal laws. They are in place for everyone, but no one is excluded even though you may never have to worry about having an issue with them.

If Cushing needed to resort to dropping weight rapidly using a homeopathic agent what was he doing to be that much overweight?

At some point some sensibility has to kick in. Team drafts you, player shows up for rookie camp, and coach tells you what weight he would like to see you at.

Often the coach does this with input from trainer and possibly your old college trainer to get as much info as possible.

You go through OTA's, training camp with the team and then all of a sudden you get a positive test for a banned substance??? You have the entire team's resources at your disposal. The coaches, the trainers, the doctors, etc and you fail a drug test.

Even if it was for weight loss, as you want to argue it still smacks of stupidity and is more indicative of someone trying to level off a cycle on their own in secret.

HCG is used post anabolic cycles because it is believed to raise natural testosterone levels however it is not known whether it actually works. It is injected and he knew what it was for....

he got busted! and just google images for him and look at him through his USC days.

the fact he still won the vote is a joke and goodell should step in

A local houston doctor on the news said that HCG does promote a larger muscle mass and that in conjunction with Steroids it is much more effective. He also said that there is no reason for Cushing to be using this for anything else.

What are you talking about, that doctor isn't anywhere near as credible as Four who claims to have taken steroids before. :laugh2:

It's disgusting that he won the award anyway. Makes me sick.

Goodell, why don't you step in and use your power to do something sensible for a change.

Goodell and the NFL have no power over the player of the year awards. The AP controls them. Goodell can't step in.

As if the Media could have any less creditability, they re-elect a steroid user.

I'm betting they did it just for ratings / page views.

umm, ya.

So you're saying he was trying to make weight last September, after mini-camps and training camp?

Wow, he must have been really overweight.

Maybe those guys that re-voted for him thinks similarly to Four...it's no big deal, they've probably done it in their past, etc. etc.

Lame, but I really thought he should have been disqualified from the re-vote.

Big enough deal to get a guy suspended.

I don't care what the substance is or what traditional uses it might have, if it is on the banned list its because they know people cheat with it.

End of story. It isn't like the league is picking out random substances just to increase the list.

I think Manny Ramirez was suspended for the same thing. Read that floating around somewhere and I suppose he was trying to make weight too.

Green Tea or Black Tar Heroine.......doesn't make a difference. If it is on the list, you don't take it.

He shouldn't have been on the ballot.

store and didn't realize it was against the rules

That's what they all say.

Despite having doctors, nutritionists, strength coaches and trainers these guys still "just don't realize" what is okay to take.

Its BS.

Supplements and getting big is what they are about. It'd be like Bill Gates getting caught with an iphone and claiming he didn't know it was an Apple product.

I just watched a bit of his press conference. Lets just say his public speaking skills leave a lot to be desired.
And he had guilty written all over his forehead.

Cushing is a known steroid user since high school. When this first came out, me and a bunch of friends laughed that some people were actually shocked. This kid was a 3rd stringer till his senior year then magically developed a huge upper body, had skinny legs, and could run crazy fast and won state player of the year.

He's a cheater for the last 6-7 years. Also, the local rumors are that he wasn't hurt his freshman season at USC, that they caught him doing 'roids and told him to sit out (suspended but not officially) and cycle off.
