And the next curse goes to ...
Wire Reports
This might be one honor LaDainian Tomlinson is glad to do without.
After his record-setting, Most Valuable Player season in 2006, Tomlinson would seem the natural candidate to grace the cover of EA Sports' Madden '08 football video game. The only problem is that the last six cover subjects have sustained season-disrupting injuries.
Chargers fans were so worried about Tomlinson being put on the Madden cover that they created a Web site and ******* page called "Save LT from Madden." According to Sports Business Daily, the petition drew more than 1,100 signatures.
Worry no more, San Diego.
According to the Nashville Tennessean, this year's honoree and injury-waiting-to-happen will be Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young, the former Texas Longhorns standout.
Last season, Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander was on the Madden '07 cover and became the sixth cover subject in a row to suffer an injury during the season, joining the likes of Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Marshall Faulk and Daunte Culpepper.
Major Adams, Young's agent, said that he and his client didn't fear the so-called "Madden Curse."
"We don't believe in no jinx," Adams told the Tennessean. "People said when they put Vince on the cover of Sports Illustrated [that] it was going to jinx him in the Rose Bowl game, and [Young's Texas team] won the national championship."
