Titans' Jones released after giving bond

LAS VEGAS — Suspended NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones surrendered and was released on $20,000 bail early Friday on felony charges in a strip club melee that preceded a triple shooting.

Jones is scheduled to return for a July 27 appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court, his lawyer Robert Langford said Friday. A booking photograph released by police showed the Tennessee Titans cornerback cut his hair, shedding his distinctive dreadlocks.

He will plead not guilty to two felony charges of coercion stemming from allegations he threatened to kill Minxx club employees and that he bit a bar bouncer, his lawyer said.

If convicted, Jones faces a maximum of 12 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Two associates — Sadia Morrison and Robert Reid — were scheduled to turn themselves in later Friday, Langford said. They also face felony charges in the Feb. 19 melee at the club several blocks off the Las Vegas Strip during the NBA All-Star Game weekend.

"He was in and out around 2 a.m.," said Lt. Jason Letkiewicz, a Las Vegas police watch commander.

After his release, Jones flew to Nashville, Tenn., his lawyer said.

The charges in Las Vegas have cast more doubt on Jones' playing status with the Titans. Since he was drafted in April 2005, he has been arrested six times — although he has not been convicted of any crimes.

Jones has been involved in at least 11 separate police investigations, authorities say, and is currently sought by Atlanta-area police for questioning in a shooting early Monday after a fight at a strip club there.

Trial may be Jones' best hope
Clearing of name sends NFL signal

Lawyers for Pacman Jones said they might prefer to see the felony coercion charges against the Titans cornerback go to trial rather than be settled by plea bargain.

Nashville-based attorney Worrick Robinson said if Jones is eventually to have any positive resolution to his one-year NFL suspension, it would be best if he's cleared of all charges.

"The commissioner is paying close attention to what is going on in Las Vegas, and it certainly would be more advantageous for Adam Jones to be cleared of everything eventually in Las Vegas," Robinson said Thursday. "But we are really in a holding pattern right now trying to find out everything we can about the allegations offered up in Las Vegas."

On Wednesday, Clark County (Nev.) District Attorney David Roger charged Jones with two counts of felony coercion stemming from a Feb. 19 incident in a Las Vegas strip club that led to a triple shooting.

Authorities gave Jones and the two other defendants — Sadia Morrison of New York and Robert Reid of Carson, Calif. — until noon today to turn themselves in, a Las Vegas police spokesman said Thursday night.

Manny Arora, an Atlanta-based attorney representing Jones, said he was in talks with the DA's office and hoped to push that deadline back, possibly to as late as Monday.

Arora also said "all options are still on the table" and that a trial would not necessarily be the choice.

"We don't even have the other side's evidence yet and whatever the option is presented to us we will certainly present it to the NFL and see what they say," Arora said.

NFL feedback possible

Arora, who has represented other NFL players in criminal cases, said in the past he has approached the commissioner's office for feedback on how a particular plea would affect the athlete's status. The NFL is not obligated to provide feedback, however.

"Because he is suspended for minimum of 10 games this fall, it is really not a factor today," Robinson said. "It will be (a factor) the closer we get to November, and it would be our hope that we would have an opportunity to have a hearing and address all of these issues and ask court to dismiss all these charges at that time."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones in April for conduct detrimental to the league on multiple occasions. The Las Vegas case will mark his sixth arrest, and Jones has had 12 known run-ins with police since the Titans drafted him in 2005. He has yet to be convicted on any charges.

The suspension included a possible reduction to 10 games if Jones met certain stipulations, included having "no further adverse involvement with law enforcement."

The NFL issued a statement Wednesday saying it was aware of the charges and that Jones' "status will be reviewed after the Titans' 10th regular-season game," which is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Atlanta interview pending

Jones is still wanted for questioning in regard to a shooting that took place several blocks from Club Blaze, an Atlanta strip club, on Monday night.

Jones was at the club and got into an argument with a customer but is not a suspect in the shooting, police said.

A spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Police Department said, "no arrangements have been made at this time" to interview Jones.

"I let them know I have to deal with the Vegas thing," Arora said. "That's my priority."

I don't see any way this guy doesn't serve the full 16 game suspension.

That's not the problem,

the problem is the people who continually say that he doesn't deserve a year long suspension.

It's like every time they open there mouth to say its unfair to pacman, he comes right behind them and throws a pie in their face, and make them look like fools.

That will be the least of his problems.

Where exactly?

And how about not 'whiting it out' so everyone can read exactly what you have to say.
