Source: Giants sign center O'Hara

By TOM CANAVAN
AP Sports Writer

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Center Shaun O'Hara took himself out of the free-agent market on Thursday night, signing a multiyear contract with the New York Giants, a person close to the team said.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team wasn't ready to confirm the deal.

O'Hara, the Rutgers' product who has been the Giants' center since 2004, did not return either a telephone message or an e-mail left by The Associated Press seeking comment. He would have become an unrestricted free agent Friday.

Contract terms were not immediately available.

The Giants and O'Hara were close to finalizing a six-year deal for about $24 million last week, but talks cooled off after Dallas signed center Andre Gurode to a six-year, $30 million contract.

Tony Agnone, O'Hara's agent, and new Giants general manager Jerry Reese resumed talks Thursday and hammered out the agreement.

Earlier Thursday, starting safety Gibril Wilson and two other restricted free agents were tendered offers by the Giants. Linebacker Reggie Torbor and running back Derrick Ward also were tendered on the eve of the NFL free-agency period.

Wilson received a second-round tender, meaning the Giants would receive a second-round pick if he signed with another team, and New York didn't match. If Wilson returns to the Giants under the tender, he would make $1.3 million as his base salary this coming season.

Wilson finished second on the Giants with 102 tackles in 15 games last season. He also had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Torbor, who played mostly on special teams, received a fourth-round tender and Ward, who missed much of the season after breaking his foot in training camp, got a seventh-round tender.

Agnone and another one of his clients, defensive end Michael Strahan, also met with Reese on Thursday.

The 35-year-old Strahan has two years left on his contract, including a $4 million salary this season. He missed almost the entire second half of the season because of a foot injury.

Free agency may cost the Giants their kicker. Jay Feely, who made 23 of 27 field goal attempts this past season, will be an unrestricted free agent Friday.

Feely did not return a telephone call left by The Associated Press on Thursday to discuss his future.

Gurode for 5 million a year or O'hara for 4 million a year? at 1st i thought Gurode got wayyyy too much money but now it seems like its just right... I'm hoping Colombo gets the same thing Kosier got last year 5 years 15 million.. but its looking like hes going to cost about 4 million a year.
