IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys’ search for Ray Sherman’s replacement as wide receivers coach has taken them to Denver’s Adam Gase, according to multiple sources.

New Broncos coach John Fox opted not to keep Gase on his staff, bringing Tyke Tolbert with him from Carolina to coach wide receivers.

Gase, 32, was with the Broncos the last two seasons, and he has a history with Cowboys’ Jon Kitna and Roy Williams.

Considering Brandon Lloyd turned from a so-so receiver to a Pro Bowler under Gase, this hire has potential.

@Jyz77 The word is - and it's not confirmed - Adam Gase will coach Tebow and the QB's. Gase did a superb job with the receivers.

@PostBroncos Is Adam Gase not staying?! I thought he was moving to QB's coach? He has been awesome for us...

@MaxBroncos bummer, was hoping they would keep Adam Gase. Our receivers played well under him.

Adam Gase enters his second year as wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos in 2010 and begins his sixth season coaching in the NFL. He was named to his current position on Jan. 20, 2009.

Before coaching Denver’s wide receivers last year, Gase was an offensive assistant for San Francisco in 2008 after coaching three seasons (2005-07) with Detroit, including serving as the club’s quarterbacks coach during the 2007 campaign. He began his coaching career in 2000 at Louisiana State University and worked at the school until taking a position in the Lions’ scouting department in 2003.

In Gase’s first year as the Broncos’ wide receivers coach in 2009, Brandon Marshall earned a trip to the Pro Bowl after becoming the fifth player in NFL history to post three consecutive 100-catch seasons (101-1,120 yds.). Marshall, who had a career-high 10 receiving touchdowns, set a league single-game record for receptions with 21 at Indianapolis (12/13/09), and his 43 catches in December tied for the most in a four-game period in the NFL since 1960.

As an offensive assistant with the 49ers in 2008, Gase worked under Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz with an offense that ranked fifth in the NFL with 64 plays that went at least 20 yards. The 49ers also had the sixth-fewest dropped passes (21) in the league for the season according to Stats Inc.

Gase also coached in a Martz-led offense during his final two seasons with the Lions from 2006-07. As Detroit’s quarterbacks coach in 2007, Gase helped quarterback Jon Kitna total the sixth-most passing yards (4,068) in the NFL while becoming only the ninth player in NFL history to post consecutive 4,000-yard passing seasons.

From 2005-06, Gase coached as an offensive assistant with the Lions, working under Head Coach Steve Mariucci in 2005 and under Head Coach Rod Marinelli in 2006.

The 2005 campaign marked the beginning of Gase’s NFL coaching career, and he worked as an offensive assistant for Detroit primarily with its running backs and quarterbacks. He broke into the NFL in 2003 with the Lions as a scouting assistant and held that position until 2005.

From 2000-02, Gase worked at Louisiana State under Head Coach Nick Saban, serving as a defensive graduate assistant for the school in 2000 before working in recruiting and as an assistant to the head coach from 2001-02. During his three years with the Tigers, the school had a 26-12 overall record, won two bowl games (Peach Bowl in 2000, Sugar Bowl in 2001) and earned one Southeastern Conference Championship (2001).

Anyone that can coax this kind of production out of Brandon Lloyd is a pretty good coach.

I love the staff that Garrett's putting together. Gase sounds like a nice coaching prospect. Lloyd was a journeyman and then all of a sudden led the league in receptions?

Matthews and/or Campbell are both very interesting possible coaches as well

Sounds like he fits the Garrett mold:

Receivers coach Adam Gase instructs McKinley with more of a tough love approach.

"He's on me like crazy," McKinley said. "He rides me coming back to the huddle, full speed everything I do. He's just making me a better player. Running sprints he wants me to be first. In everything I do he's on my back and in my ear. I gotta just choke it up and take what he's saying. He's trying to get me better and he's getting me better because I'm learning everything."

If it's me I go John Garrett WR's, Campbell TE's and Matthews Asst. OL.

...and Ryan at DC, Cox as Dline coach would be good. Kick Campo to the curb and bring in Thurman as DB coach/asst. DC and it's all good.........

Gase sounds like he has the right background (Mike Martz offense) and production (developing pro bowl WRs).

Sounds like an up and comer.
