Archer: Cowboys change mind and don't call up RB Lance Dunbar from practice squad

Hope Cochart clears waivers and we get him onto the PS. I'm guessing the Cowboys are hoping so, too.

Wonder if by "'flunked a test' of sorts" Colin wasn't able to show he knew enough of the playbook and/or play calls yet, given he's had so little time to learn them. ???

Do something impressive tonight, Lance. Good luck.

it was mentioned in another thread that cochart doesn't have practice squad eligibility anymore after being active for a certain number of actual games

Cochart not eligible for the PS. This is a move that puts him back on the streets for anyone to sign and if we want him back, we will have to cut someone to get him again.

I'm surprised the Cowboys didn't go after Kory Sperry instead of Cochart. Considering he started games for Norv last year, you would think he would already be well versed in verbiage and offensive concepts for Garrett's offense.

@toddarcher
Cowboys will call up RB Lance Dunbar from practice squad. Colin Cochart will be cut. Dunbar will see ST role and made flight to NJ on Tue.

what a surprise, as I just read something were Cochart stated he has learned enough of our play book to be ready to contribute.:starspin

Well, Dunbar just got his entire season's salary guaranteed.

I actually hope they use him more than just on kickoffs. The dude has got some Sproles like qualities. Small and very quick.

D'oh! Thanks guys.

Well that sucks for Cochart. What a whirlwind deal he was put through. I was liking what I thought he might bring to the TE table for us. Sucks for him, but that's the NFL for ya.

I just dont understand it. why did we bring him in??? anyone have any idea?

Think maybe he failed a drug or steroid test? Cowboys can't comment on that type of thing.

Dunbar is likely gameday activated as our 3rd RB over Tanner, otherwise I don't know why you have to make this move today. I expect quick pitches to the flats to DeMarco to be a critical cog of the Cowboys offenese to keep their defensive front playing horizontally and keep their DEs from over committing to crashing down, so I imagine Dunbar could have a limited role in the offense.

Why not bring back TE Szczerba to the practice squad?

I thought he showed pretty well during the preseason and expected him to have made the practice squad already.

They were looking for a blocking TE and thought this guy could provide that...cheap waiver pick up.

Too bad he failed some kind of tests.......oh well....looking the Bennett replacement continues I suppose

Who knows tho...maybe we will be more of a spread out offense...

well, I know why we would, but to just cut him for Dunbar immediately seems strange. guess we need to know more about the "test"

Yeah....conditioning....drugs....etc......who knows....seems pretty quite with the reasons. When a team does a thing like this.....I suspect either drugs or maybe attitude

Hmmm? If Szczerba is still unsigned by any other team, why not? I thought he'd shown some positive flashes -- and more than just as a blocker -- in TC and preseason, also.

They brought him in to be the 3rd TE for the 1st game with mainly blocking duties. The test is probably that he didn't learn enough for them to be comfortable putting him on the field. I think it is probably just that simple. They either are going to change their gameplan or have someone like Parnell come in as a blocking TE. I never understood why more teams didn't just use an OL as a TE on obvious running downs and the goalline anyway.
