I like how confident everyone is that tgey can create that much more cap space so easily. It’s almost as if we were never in cap hell until just recently.

Its very very clear that the Cowboys don't play that restructure game like they used to. Because its dumb. Yet people still talk about it like its a great way to manage the cap and the Cowboys will do it any day now. LOL

You use that tool in mild and rare circumstances.

So, we are projected to have about $116,000000 cap space next year. So in fact plenty to sign all of the players we want to retain. Dak, Zeke, Cooper and Jones - if they want to.
Yes they will use a big chunk - if not most of it. But they are in pretty good standing.

Yep and its because they haven't been doing all the dumb restructuring they were doing in the past.

Potential Cap Savings- remember this just a MENU of options, not suggestions

Restructures
TSmith............7.5m
ZMartin...........7.5m
TFred...............4m
TCrawford........4m
SLee................4m

Cuts/Trades
DLawrence......20.m
RQuinn.............8m
SLee................2m
TCrawford........6m
AHurns.............5m
Witten...............4.5m
TWill.................2.25m
JHeath..............2m
JThomas...........2m
CJones.............800k

Extension

DLawrence..........10m
ACooper..............7m
Zeke...................(2 years left)
BJones................0m
Dak..................would add at least 6m to his 1.7m cap hit

The Cowboys clearly don't like to restructure anymore because its dumb. It can be used in certain instances. Its a tool, not a strategy to manage the cap.

So your pipe dream will have to putter out again this year.

Its clear you try to come off as some kind of cap expert. But the truth is you obviously know nothing about how to properly manage the salary cap. Lets just be thankful that Stephen has altered course and no longer do a lot of dumb restructuring.

Is Romo still draining resources from the cap? Or is that tragic era finally off the books for good?

Yeah, because who has been good enough to restructure? We’ll see what happens after the next couple years of signings. We were lucky enough to have a QB and RB (most importantly QB) on rookie contracts and at a time when they should have been spending in FA. Now they basically have this year to make something happen before they have to sign a lot of big names and big contracts to keep the team going in the right direction.

I think, once they get the Lawrence thing done, they will turn to Dak. Give him a nice raise for this year and something reasonable going forward.

Romo's contract was so cap friendly for a front line QB it made Brady's deal look bad.... his restructures allowed us to sign many extra players those early years when the cap was lower

Romo only had 1 cap hit over 15m his whole career and that was 2016 at 20m

Even though he left 10m and 8m in 2017 and 2018 they saved a combined 34m of cap space those 2 years and that was worse case scenario(an injury retirement)

Told y'all there is no more cap space for any more free agent pickups. That's not including contract extensions soon coming up for Dak, Zeke, Amari, La'el, Jaylon, Byron, etc.

Doesn't mean much really when we all know Stephen can create more room with the snap of his fingers if necessary.

Just because you don't understand his posts doesn't mean it's dumb.

Almost every team in the league uses the same methods to play with the cap.

He literally said “these aren’t suggestions” and provided insight on how the cap could be manipulated as a thought experiment. Never implied it’s what the team should do, or that he thought they would, just that they could.

Someone specifically tagged him for just such an example because of their respect for his understanding of the cap and he complied. It’s appreciated

Let me know when we actually run out of ways to create more cap room. That's when I'll worry about the cap again.

Cap is a myth. LOL

You can restructure half the roster and get 50 million under the cap if you want to. Didn't you know?

Oh and the cap goes up every year so who cares?

:lmao::lmao2:

On a realistic note, they pretty much did it perfectly. Saved money for draft picks to sign and another low priced FA or two to come in after the draft. Once Lawrence signs long term they can chop up that 20 million into another long term contract for possibly Dak or Cooper.

Classic. Ignorance plus emojis.

There's an automatic restructure on Martin's deal that will free about 7 mill, a good 7 mill coming when Lawrence signs long term, and a few deals that aren't making it to the start of the season.

Stephen consistently notes that the team doesn't sit around with cap space until it needs to adjust. We'll never have 40 mill of open space because we don't make space until needed.

But please, keep up your emoji-based conclusions

I have us a 10.2m under the cap

OTC is counting RQuinn at 11.8m instead of 8m..... that is 3.8m added to the 6.4m they are reporting

The Martin deal though ... that's designed to convert to push money out into later years. Another 7 or so right there

They restructured Frederick and Witten just last year . Right now there's no need to restructure unless they were planning on signing more players .
