Arden Key is a blue chip prospect at a position which always is in high demand. Potentially could become a game wrecker off the edge. He comes with serious off the field character concerns. The Cowboys Front Office has got burned in the pass taking such a player. If they are comfortable enough with his character, they might pull the trigger and roll those dice again. If he's there at 81, would be very tempting.

Late round flier for me. I dont think he is that good a prospect as a player.

in previous years we would gamble on these type of players....we will see if this FO gambles again on Key or maybe even Callaway.

You cant be a blue chip prospect if you are subpar measureables.

Nope earliest would be comp 5th

I think we have had enough character issues for a while. I do think he has plenty of talent, but if it were me, I think we need to start collecting some sure bets for s little while. Take chances when you have a complete team, not when you have to count on the character to do his part.

Downside: Lazy with technique at times. Not fundamentally sound. Motor runs hot and cold. Picks his spots and will disappear for stretches. Can tip his pass-rush moves and must develop better counters. Can get too high and pushed off his mark. Doesn’t have much of a bull rush. Inconsistent run defender who can struggle in the power game. Watch him get glued to a pulling guard’s block against Florida and fail to make the stop or force the run back inside:

Someone will grab him in the 2nd round and claim they got a "Top 10 talent" that slipped in the draft. Two years from now they'll realize that there's a reason teams let a Top 10 talent escape the first round.

If the reason they drop turns out to be a non-factor, you can look like a genius for grabbing him. But if you continually take those gambles, the house will always win. Jerry loves to try and outsmart the other 31 teams, but after Gregory and Jaylon, I think he's smart enough to step away from the table......not take another gamble to try and offset his losses.

If it was just character I’d probably take the risk in the 3rd...but he’s just too skinny and clearly isn’t going to put the work in. All he had to do was show to his pro day with his weight up and show at least glimpses of the athleticism he did as a Sophomore and some teams likely takes a chance on him in the 2nd. If he’s not at least willing to fake it to get a bigger paycheck what’s going to happen once he gets an actual paycheck?

Some guys are immature and reckless but you at least know they are going to give you high effort on the field, just a matter if they are going to be able to stay on the field. With Key you don’t know what you are going to get on or off the field. Pass unless it’s a 6th/7th

We've been down this road before - I am hoping we have learned from it - we'll see.

I don’t have a problem with taking risks
I have a problem not mitigating those risk
If you use a sixth on a Key type player and you have to cut him it’s not a big loss
If you use a second it is
Key is probably one of the riskiest players with talent in this draft and if you want to gamble on a guy like that you do so in the last couple rnds
If you have a set roster and have plenty of talent then you can gamble more, we can’t

He would probably be best served as a player and a person to go undrafted and have to work his way on a roster
In the long run that might turn the light on or otherwise he will be working at McDonald’s soon

They are both top 20 locks. He's talking about using a 3rd.
Hes also talked about in late 1st...quite often.

I saw prominent mocks recently with him going 25, 27 and then 100th (which is the latest Ive seen).
Usually hes in the 40s

Either way, no thanks

I just don't see a possibility of him going in the top 2 rounds.

Gregory's only issue was failing the drug test at the combine and fell to the bottom of the 2nd.

Key has about 4x more issues, yet is still being mocked in the 1st. Those prominent guys are going to be dead wrong.

Agreed on no thanks
