Are 1 year contracts common?

Not real familiar with what other teams are doing but seems like Dallas is always signing players to 1-year deals. Is it that Dallas wants these players to prove they deserve a longer contract, or they just don't feel they are long term solutions? I know either way can bite a team ITA but why not a 2- or 3-year contract voidable after 1 year?
It’s common. A lot of guys coming off a season of bad tape bet on themselves and build their stock back up for the next offseason.

I really can’t believe someone would think Sean Payton would want to ruin his legacy by coaching in Dallas lol.

We are the development/audition team of the league. We let guys come herefor a year, and if they do well, let some other team poach them and if they are mediocre, sign them for some modest deal
