Are Additional Linebackers Needed?

I think they've got Williams, Houston, Gary, Liuafau, EZ, Lawrence, Snowden, Wheat as rush/edge linebackers.
Overshown, Winters, James and Barham as off ball linebackers.

Did I miss a bottom depth piece to either group?
Probably so.
But I guess the answer to your question is based on how well you like these 2 current group's players.

I'm not the biggest fan of either group so I'd take a proven edge or off ball type without hesitating.

Top 5? Doubtful.

Who is out there that would be a realistic target for trade?
Fred Warner? Nah.
Roquan Smith? Nah
Carson Schwesinger? Would of been nice to draft him in the 25 draft.
Jack Campbell? Just re-signed.
Zach Baun? Eagles wouldn't send him here.
Azeez Al-Shaair? Just re-signed last year to a big deal
Brooks re-signed just recently

etc...

If Dallas wanted a better vet option this year, there were a few for the taking. Sure they may of tried on a few, but didn't land anyone. Hell, I would of taken Leo Chenal as a fall back LB once the top guys signed.

That entire group is all scrubs and there is no proven leader. Idk who out there is looking to move or who we can afford.

Lol, I hear ya man. Me and you share very similar evaluations of the current team's linebackers while other Zone optimists want to put all their hope on potential alone.

Yeah, Im not sure who the team might have on their radar either. BUT I guess we'll see the whole draft and develop plan in full effect with all these rookies and 2nd yr players.

"Maybe" at least one of 'em will pan out.
Maybe.

They are not trading for a top 5 linebacker. They have already made the move they wanted to in order to aquire who/what they wanted at the position.

Are they needed, that and a few other positions! What team would be willing to give their top lb to us. Probably are better just seeing what we have then trying free agency

Until a few teams rack up 4+ losses by week 6 I’m not sure how many players will truly be available for trade.

Unless there is a player contract issue or major injury big names won’t be traded in August. Aside from bottom of the roster moves your team is pretty much set going into camp.

Only reason for concern at this spot is Overshowns injury history. It’s fine if the current top four can stay on the field. We should want to see Barham and James develop, although I wonder about the fit for James in this defense (maybe someone can weigh in on that as I could be very wrong).

My guess is they offered a second for Brooks but Miami wasn’t going to deal him for less than a first, which is rich for him. Once they acquired Winters this was settled, except in the minds of fans.

Also, this is a position where a UDFA could potentially come in and make the team and actually play a little.

I can’t see how any fan could advocate for dealing top picks for this position for the sake of depth.

Let’s say we move a second rounder for a ILB, who is going to the bench if everyone is healthy? Not Overshown, and not Winters.

I think it’s moot as Jerry’s not gonna do that. If he was so inclined, they’d probably have Brooks here already over Winters.

Those picks have to remain in the wallet to possibly fix the LT situation before the deadline if necessary, or to replace Pickens if he prices himself out of here, not to be three deep at starter for a position that we only use two at a time at most. This all feels like common sense rather than an opinion.

We can always go back to lining up Markquese Bell at MLB. Ahh the good ol days with Dan Quinn calling the plays and getting walloped in the playoffs.

Are we going to trade for a top 5 linebacker. We still need one.

If there's an injury or the current group really struggles this summer I could see them kicking the tires on Bobby Okeroke (I assume he's still out there).

As far as the trade market I don't see a player worth giving up anything for.

Keep an eye on Tyrel Dodson. Miami drafted Rodriguez and a couple other LBs.

Probably could be had for cheap. Green dot guy. Athletic. Experienced. At the very least he'd be great insurance.

At least we were getting to the playoffs when he was here...

Out of all the groups on defense, I still think the LB may struggle the most, especially early in the season, in both the passing game and the run game. I just don't see the impact player we need to have the defense gel together. The new DC better be really good at deception, and designing plays, else...I still don't know about this defense as a unit. I'd be impressed if they're even middle of the pack.
