Are Additional Linebackers Needed?

The hope is that Barshawn is way better than anyone thought and isn't raw. That Winters plays at above average starter and is sufficient. And that Overshown is completely healed and mentally ready to be back to his top form.

That is a lot to ask out that group, but the "positive" take away is that they all are still better than Kenneth Murray, so.

Keep an eye on Tyrel Dodson. Miami drafted Rodriguez and a couple other LBs.

Probably could be had for cheap. Green dot guy. Athletic. Experienced. At the very least he'd be great insurance.
Really good call.
Not Brooks level talent but definite improvement for this team's LB group depth.

Bobby Wagner?
Not sure how much he has left in the tank. But if he signs anywhere my guess is it will be towards the end of next month.

I don't think Wagner is interested in going through a training camp right now. Similar to Clowney last year.

They badly need another competent LBer.

But they're definitely not going to trade for a Top-5 type of player.

I really like the idea.

Base defense you have Dodson and Winters at ILB.

Nickel and Dime I'd bring Overshown in at OLB. He has shown that he can rush and get to the QB. It would also help keep him healthy.

Gary and Eze would be your 1st and 2nd down OLB. Pass situations you have Lawrence and Overshown.

Barron may surprise as well. Hes bulked up some and fits that nickel/dime LB role. He was a safety in college until his last year where he converted to LB.

This group reminds me a lot of last year's, where we ran out there with a bunch of maybes - "maybe Liufau will develop", "maybe Overshown will stay healthy", "maybe Sanborn will be OK" - and everything broke the wrong way. It may have been the worst LB room I have ever seen.

Hopefully we're due for a break in the other direction, but we are once again taking our chances on a bunch of unknowns who have very little production.

One thing to watch out for... Downs will almost be an LB, and he's ready to ball there right now. I already think he's the best linebacker on he team.

Nice post which I mostly agree with. The only part I don't is just how much Downs is used at LB. Spot action no problem.
But yeah, be honest with yourself if you want to watch a pulling guard with a full head of steam bulldozer him in open space.
I don't want to see that and I bet you don't either.
So a little LB maybe.
But sparingly please.

My opinion only.

How?

Murray was a bust and everyone except Jerry knew it. Right now, Overshown will be there and if he stays healthy he is a dramatic improvement.

Sandborn was an Eberfail reject. Winters is a dramatic improvement.

Clark never recovered from the spinal fusion and was a bust. Barham will easily be better, even as a rookie.

James will be in competition with Richardson, Barron Marist and any potential camp cut or trade option.

The LB group is at LEAST average now. Which is a huuuge improvement over what we had at the start of last year.

Solid what ifs description of this lb roster man, provided they can all actually play.
For whatever reason, Barron that you mentioned, at 6'4" 235 intrigues me as a nice type of interchangeable piece of this group too.

Now again, they all need to prove it on the field, lol.
But this does sound good.
