Are college fans getting out of hand?

There has been a lot of talk lately about college fans storming the court. Personally, I think it is getting out of hand, and I say that as someone who generally supported the practice. Penn State beats #22 Ohio St. and they storm the court. 3 days later, Indiana beats Ohio State (who were still ranked #22, but in name only until the new rankings) and they do the same thing. Really, people? Is it really necessary to storm when you beat the sad-sack, overrated Buckeyes?

Last weekend there was an incident, where I believe the players were at fault, but having a thousand students rush the court certainly doesn't help. Tonight a fan came out of the stands and got up in the face of a Hawaii head coach right in the middle of the game.

When these things happen, ESPN shows them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, which I feel only makes future events more and more likely to happen.

It's really just a matter of time before something really bad happens to either a player, fan, coach, whatever.

Fans don't want to get punched in the face, they should stay off the court. It puts players in a bad situation.

Not to mention the fact that they storm way too often nowadays.

Yes. All too many fans believe they are part of the game these days. It's encouraged to a great extent by virtually all major sports. You don't see this kind of thing happen much in Hockey though. Players my go in the stands but fans don't come on the ice.

I wonder why that is?

As an IU fan I do not recall them storming the court last weekend after that win. I guess it's possible. I know they did when they beat Wisconsin who was #3 at the time in January, thought it was stupid. Not a huge fan of it though I can understand in 2011 when the IU students did it with the Watford buzzer beater 3 to beat #1 ranked KY. Still thought it was dumb.

I would assume the giant wall has something to do with it.

It's hard to hurdle the glass. Even if you were to get past the glass obstacle, you'd still have trouble keeping your footing haha. Imagine a bunch of hyped up fans trying to gather and celebrate at center ice, now that would be some entertainment. Human dominoes.

Yes, the wall is an obstacle and the ice is slippery but I'd imagine that the bigger issue with keeping your footing is the staying conscious part after having been beaten half to death by a few of those Hockey Players.

I don't know, I'm just kinda spit balling there.

I'm guess it is because hockey isn't as popular as other sports. :D
