Are Cowboys' triplets the best QB-RB-WR combo in the NFL?
Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin. These three Hall of Famers formed what is known as The Triplets. Every team wants a set, yet it’s been a long time coming for a group to come along that warrants the actual title. The 2016 Cowboys are throwing their names in the ring.
In 2014, the Cowboys got the closest they’ve been to the revival of the triplets with Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray. Romo received MVP votes, Bryant and Murray both broke Cowboys’ franchise records with 16 receiving touchdowns and 1,846 rushing yards, respectively.
Unfortunately, their height of success could only be witnessed for one season as Murray went along and signed with the enemy. The Cowboys entered the 2015 season hoping Joseph Randle could ‘eat more meat off the bone’ than Murray. That went downhill fast, as he was released halfway through the season.
The teams’ realization of forming another triplets had vanished. Then, on April 28, 2016 the vision became reality once again. With the selection of Ezekiel Elliott out of Ohio State with the fourth pick in the draft, the Cowboys once again had their triplets...
