What are the advantages/disadvantages of going into a game after having come off of a bye-week?

I've heard some fans say ..."get rid of the bye-week" completely!

While the bye-week does give teams an extra week to prepare for a particular opponent, and a week extra of practice, a team could also lose focus. Also, it could kill a team's momentum, timing and allow a team to become rusty.

In 2006 the Cowboys were dealt an early bye-week; week #3 - September 24th ...

Week #4 Cowboys WON their very next game against the Titans ...Cowboys dominate Titans 45-14.

Week #5 loss (NFC-East 38-24)
Week #7 loss (NFC-East 36-22)
Week #8 loss (NFC-East 22-19)

Believe Cowboys were the better team. However, what percentage of the win could be attributed toward the Cowboys being fresh after only 3 prior games. Was the bye-week unnecessary/not needed ...too early to effectively provide the rest that would be needed later in the season; say perhaps in week #8?

In 2007, the Cowboys bye-week is in week #8 - September 28th. If there is any relevance to what in 2006, the Cowboys should have a better performance in the following games against ...

Week #9 @ Eagles ...November 4
Week #10 @Giants ...November 11
Week #11 Commanders ...November 18

When in your opinion is the ideal time for a ..."Bye-Week?"

I hate the bye week.....get-rid-of-it!

I've heard a lot of NFL fans say the same thing. But one arument is the business end of the bye-week ...dollars and cents loss into removing a regular season game week.

Depends on who's coaching them. BP seemed to have the guys ready right out of the gate so the early bye week didn't matter. Unfortunately we never seemed to get any better as the season went on so the late bye depended on who we were playing, which I guess, plays a big part in it too. I also think the more the veteran the team is the more you get out of it with a later bye. Just tweaking a unit or two or improving what's already good. Younger teams are working like it's TC especially if there's a new/rookie QB. JMO, of course.

I think your always better off having a bye later in the season when teams tend a lot more bumps and bruises that need some rest.

I've never seen this Cowboys team step on the field, so I couldn't possibly know.

...someone just forget the right month ...:(

That's almost as embarrassing as the guy who discretely inquires at the customer service counter, about an item that he couldn't find. Only to hear the store representative engage a very loud intercom system asking the stock room if those extra small condoms were still on back order.:(

To me, for any team that should be a playoff contender in a certain year, a late bye is always better to get some rest in preparation for a playoff run. With a bye as early as week 3, no one is even tired in week 3 and it's just a dumb time to have it. IMO, no one really wants the rest yet and they'd actually be hungry to be out on the field still in week 3, then they have a massive stretch of no bye for the rest of the year + playoffs if they make it.

You seem obsessed with the Cowboys. I think it was Freud -- or was it Mike Tyson? -- who said you must know what you fear.:)

P.S.: Mods, isn't there a law around here that we don't have to put up with puke-green uniforms in this forum?

Rarely has Dallas gotten a bye week past week 4 in their history. I'm pretty sure this is because of the turkey day game and the way that gives them a 10 day layoff afterwards every year.

Not at all. However, I do enjoy giving and receiving perspectives from other NFL fan bases on multiple MBs.

Must have been Sigmund ...Mike said "you must bite the ear!" Ironically, Freud has more to do with your first comments than your quote.

OK, you axed for it. The court of public opinion has issued a writ of immediate cease and desist. International law also stipulates that puke green cannot be present in Dallas Cowboys Forums, aka Zone in this and any other universes. Please take your puke-green photo and leave!!!

Last time i check

Reality is that a philthy eagle fan should not be on a cowboys message board, constantly making pointless and redundant threads.

Or where we talking about a different reality?
