Are the Cowboys targeting someone from AZ or Pitt for D-Coordinator?

With the "passing" of Brian Stuart, and no hires made to replace him, I can't help but wonder: Are the Cowboys targeting someone from AZ or Pitt as D-Coordinator? Are they just waiting for post-Super-Bowl to make a move?

I mean, right now, without a D-Coordinator in place, it would be up to Phillips to coordinate the whole defense if a hire is not made. That would make the head-caching hole even bigger.

I also don't believe it's the team's plan to have Reeves fill that hole. I think the speculation that makes more sense is that Reeves was hired to help with the draft on the offensive side of the ball and help Garrett get through one more season as O-Coordinator; and next year, if (or when) Garrett becomes Head Coach, then Reeves will be hired laterally as his O-Coordinator.

Whether or not my speculation on the offensive side comes to pass, it still doesn't help explain what might happen on the defensive-coaching side of the Ball. I just see no option where Phillips steps down to be Garrett's D-Coordinator if Garrett becomes Head Coach (and I don't think he should because he is 10 times more proven in his relative specialty than Garret in his). And I don't see how Phillips plays D-Coordinator one more year from this Head-Coaching pulpit. In fact, I believe that if Jones had apprached him about this, Phillips would have resigned.

But it still leaves this question unanswered - about what Dallas will do to fill that hole at D-Coordinator. Is Phillips targeting a guy he can’t yet make a move on? Or if Garrett is to become the head coach in 2010, is there someone else he is possibly looking towards (or Jerry currently looking for him on his behalf) to fill that opening -- potentially someone on Pitt's or AZ defensive staff, or someone else?

You've got to consider the possibility, definitely. It sure beats the hell out of wondering whether or not Jerrah's just going to give Campo a promotion...

Makes sense. Although I think they'll probably wind up making Grantham the D-Coordinator over Campo. Campo had his run and is a 4-3 guy. Grantham is a 3-4 guy who can run the players and Wade can make the playcalls. I'd prefer to see them get somebody who has that aggressive nature so they can take over when Wade is gone.

Knowing Jerry Jones, he'll make his choice tomorrow morning so all of the SuperBowl talk will have Cowboys in it. He's a great marketer!

Here's to the 2009 Boys - They're in the running for the best Soap Opera of the year award.

Arizona does not run a 3-4. So I doubt it there.

Pittsburgh does run a 3-4. Maybe?

Dick Lebeau is styaing as DC. That has already been determined.

That leaves Roy Horton from the secondary, Keith Butler from the LBs, and John Mitchell from the D-line.

I tend to doubt it. I really think they wanted Greg Manusky but the 49ers nixed that by signing him through 2010.

Right.

Our DC choice is really going to trump the SuperBowl.

Won't be Lebeau, unforunately. The idea at DC makes sense in this post but Dan Reeves as Jason Garrett's OC down the road? Wow, no shot! Better odds on Reeves being the HC this year and Wade being the DC. Well it probably will work out that way, just not title wise. Everyone gets to have a glorified title this year.

Yeah Lebeau isn't going anywhere, and if he did it would be for the HC position. I wouldn't mind that move for 2010 if Wade's last year doesn't work out.

As far as I'm concerned, we have our defensive coordinator in Phillips, and I'm content with that.

The only way we could get LeBeau is to make him the HC and no way he is going to do that.

Keith Butler, linebacker's coach for Pittsburgh, has been in Pittsburgh for 6 years, and with Tomlin in Tampa.

Ray Horton, defensive secondary coach, has a strong resume also.

Both of tghese guys are strong candidates, and neither would surprise me as a coordinator in Dallas.

Is he the same Ray Horton that played safety for Dallas in the early 80's?

It won't anywhere but in Dallas.

And in case you didn't notice a couple years ago, the commish puts the lockdown on teams making any moves around the Superbowl so as to avoid taking away from the game.

I think that is the answer, they just didnt want to make hires in the two weeks leading to the superbowl because the league frowns on attention being pulled from the big game.

Yes,

He is also the guy that got beat by john taylor in the superbowl for the game winner!!!!!!

so if he were to get hired I would expect about 1 minute after the team gives up its first passing TD next year someone will make a thread about him not being good and not being able to cover john taylor and how he chokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just the first half why? What am I being blamed for now.

By the way, I making a defensive highlight video.

I have a bin in my avid project called sacks, and I have everyone of them.....

its fun to kind of go through them!

I am sure after I am done with the video the team will give up a record amount of points and record 10 sacks on the year, but I am doing it anyway.

oh and here is a link to the offensive highlight vid in HD, streaming no downloading.

Can you make a video of all the bad plays, blunders, etc? I bet you will find many plays with deep passes that kill countless drives...
