Are The Dallas Cowboys Interested In Lorenzo Neal?

by Ramone Brown (Analyst) Written on August 20, 2009

It seems that FB Lorenzo Neal may not have to wait very long for a team to pick him up. After his release by the Oakland Raiders earlier this week it is already rumored that the Cowboys are interested.

Earlier this offseason the Cowboys were thought to be interested in the four time pro-bowler. Also Neal is quoted saying the Dallas Cowboys are one of the teams he would like to play for.

The Cowboys who saw Neal's Skills first hand last Thursday in the 31-10 loss to the Oakland Raiders could help solidify the ground game with this pickup.

The only negatives are apparently Neal wasn't good enough for the Raiders.

And last year with the Ravens though Neal was listed as active through all 16 games he only played in 10 and only started 5. At 38 many question how much he has left.

So will Lorenzo Neal Become a Cowboy? And how much would he help the team?

I know it's Bleacher Report, but you never know.

There's no interest, but there is a lot of respect. Unless Anderson is really hurt, I can't see anything changing.

I'm not even sure they carry a fullback at this point.

They may keep Anderson around like teams did with Lousaka Polite, or keep Neal on speed-dial.

But, despite your wishes and mine Hos, it looks like the Cowboys have de-emphasized the fullback position.

In the passing game for sure.

We'll see about the running game.

Give me a sledgehammer fullback for that duty anyday.

Emmitt Smith didn't become the league's all-time leading rusher running behind Jay Novacek.

Bennett is going to be a load in the run game. He was extremely good at blocking at Texas A&M and has been so good at it for us they were talking the other day about how he could probably become a probowl OT.

Novacek was an ultra athletic TE who used to be a WR. Bennett is more of a true TE.

No knock on Bennett, I think we got a real good one and he's going to be a heckuva player.

But I'd still like to have a 'hammer' on the roster as well.

Ramone Brown says otherwise. :D

Seriously, even if Anderson was healthy, he would have a tough time making the team. IMO, Phillips is going to get every opportunity to be the lead blocker out of the backfield. TEs have more value in this Cowboys scheme, Cowboys may have to carry at LEAST three.

Jerry thinks he'd make a probowl OT...

Yeah because Jay Novacek and Martellus Bennet are the same in size, speed, strength, etc.....

I really wanted the Cowboys to get Lorenzo Neal about 8-12 years ago. Now, not so much.

I don't want Neal because I think he's done but I am sick and tired of hearing "well if he can't play for team "x" he surely can't play here.

What have we done to have this attitude? It makes no sense.

The guy was drafted 3 months after Troy, Mike, and Emmitt won their FIRST Superbowl.

That was a long time ago.

Not interested in Neal, hopefully Cricket is healthy soon. i don't think we'll find a better FB in free agency.
