The G-Men were the best on that given Sunday. They are not the best team to ever play, period.

I don't think it's a matter of "Any Given Sunday" so much as it is match-ups. In the Boxing world, they say that some fighters are made for other fighters. It's a match-up thing IMO.

Of all the teams in the NFL, I think the Giants might match up best against the Pats. There team strengths play to the Pats weakness'. To me, this was not a fluke. Simply a matter of the Pats being made for the Giants.

Giants are the best in 2007. Best ever? I don't think they are there by a long shot right now.

Agreed.

The Pats lost to the Ravens(insert wink here) and then 2x to lesser teams during the year.... they were beatable. The Giants just brought it.

Best ever.... laughable.

It may have done the Pats well to lose one of the games during the year... it would have changed the pressure of this game... for them and the Giants.

Okay, check my logic here:
If the New York Giants hadn't made a touchdown on the last drive (if say the prayer of a pass had been intercepted), the Patriots would have won and would have been anointed the best ever by many in the media. Therefore, since the Giants beat that "best ever" team, wouldn't it follow that the Giants can be called the "best ever"?

Is my logic flawed?

Or are media-types flawed in their premature and shortsighted coronation of the Patriots?

On any given Sunday, the worst team in the NFL can beat the best team. Giants are far from being the worst team in the NFL, but I think the Patriots, The Cowboys, The Packers, The Colts were all better than them. This years cheaters was one of the most talented teams ever. Compare that to the first team Brady won a super bowl with, which was one of the least talented teams to ever win a super bowl.

The giants won -- rightfully so -- thanks to a lot of heart, and some luck -- and despite Eli.

Even Eli deserves it. He threw 2 TD passes and the only int was due to the WR batting the ball up. He also drove his team down the field for the game winner. Eli proved himself and did not choke under the pressure and showed this throughout the playoffs. To discredit Eli I think is very unfair regardless of how you feel about him personally

not your logic, just you attributing the media's logic to being good

alot of Super Bowl teams of the past would have ripped the Pats

I want to and have given Eli alot of credit. He came through... but it was via some pretty timely luck.

Game ending INT dropped
Tyree ball thrown in triple coverage and very high
Almost sacked

He was a bus driver that put his foot on the pedal in the end and avoided some pitfalls in the road.

If you count almost ints then many great QB's are not so great. If you look at the entire playoffs the guy went out and got the job done. So if you want to look at it as luck fine but then put that same luck factor on many other QB's. I'm not trying to make Eli into the best in the game but when the Giants needed him to come through he did. He did that vs Tampa, Dallas, GB and NE that is some pretty damn good luck to go through that and end up with the ring.

He got lucky while coming through. Just one of those plays that goes NE's way - he and the Giants were done.

Our stat person on this site Adam said there were 4 almost turnovers.

He is good...but he got lucky.

As I said many QB then get lucky including Tony Romo who has had passes that were almost int but were not. Eli could have lost his cool but didn't he came through and made the throws at the end and put his team in the endzone. If that was our guy who did that we would be singing his praise but because we don't like Eli well he was just lucky. Sorry many QB have had that same luck along the way

Honestly, I don't see how one can make a case for them being anything but the worst team to ever win the Super Bowl- worst record for a Super Bowl champion (tied with the 10-6 1988 49ers, who at least won their division in a time period known for great football among 28 teams rather than the watered down 32 team free agency/salary cap quagmire of today), did not win their division, combined playoff winning margin of 20 points- I can't think of any Super Bowl champion with a worse claim to greatness.

Your comments on luck are too broad.

I am talking specifically on that last series. Eli didnt lose his cool but could have easily lost that game a few times on the last drive.

Its not of my opinion... anyone who knows anything can see that.

I actually think Eli is better than what we saw him play in the playoffs.

All I'm saying is other QB almost throw ints during 4th qrt winning drives as well almost does not count for anything. He made the plays and put his team in the endzone end of story and end of game.

:banghead::banghead::banghead:Ok Congrats to the gints . Now that I got that out:puke:

Everyone has elly as this elite QB. Granted ,he played well but ELITE????????????????

If Samuals holds on to a pass that elly threw, (that was in his hands and he should have cought) , game over,(bad pass) then elly throws a pass that now their saying was "The Absolute Greatest Catch in Super Bowl history". So I give more credit to Tyree, if he doesn't make a spectacular catch on a questionable throw, ,game over.

You can say that elly played well and that he's a good QB, OK but as wise man once said, "Lets not get out the annointing Oil"

Man!!! Trent Dilfer has a SB ring, and so does Grossman.

I did not say Eli was an elite QB I do think he deseves credit for the job he did. Yes he almost got a ball picked off, but he came right back and made plays to help drive his team to the winning TD and the only pick he did have was one due to the WR knocking the pass up to Hobbs for the pick.

I didn't mean that you said he was elite, I've been hearing it on the NFL channel on the radio and I heard it on a ny sports show this am.

I'm sorry, but if anyone expects me to praise elly or anyone else on gints it's not going to happen.
I think some (not all ) of their players , coaches and Most of their fans are just obnoxious.
Their fans Kill me. My best friend and alot of other friends I have here in NY two months ago wanted elly's head and wanted him gone, now He's The second coming. That hypocritical talk just absolutely kills me ,and this happens alot with gint fans around here..
Sorry for the rant, but I just can't stand that team and their fans (friends or not ) are just great frontrunner's.

first: greatness is archived by continuity imo.
second: the patriots didn't win, so they aren't cosnidered the best team ever. so who did the giants beat then ? the second best. so they are second best team then ?

so to answer your question: NO. whats more. to me the giants are just a good team, which peeked at the right time. see how they start next season, then we'll see if the performance they showed at the end of the season is really legit.

imo with some luck we could have beatem then by a 14 point margain and no one would have questioned our win. this is not some woulda coulda shoulda it's only one aspect you have to put in the equation.

I'm no Giant fan just a fan who gives credit when credit is due and expects that same credit be given to my team when we have won. Of course some fans will never do that, each to their own on that. Seeing that you are in NY I can understand what you are going through but putting all the side show BS on the back burner I would still think from a pure football mindset that what the Giants did was pretty remarkable given the fact no one thought that team could do what they did. To go on the road play Tampa and win, then Dallas and win, then GB and win and finally the SB where for 2 weeks all they heard was how they did not stand a chance no one was picking them to win they went out and shocked the football world.
