Are the Stephen Jones Years going to be worse than the Jethro Years?

Absolutely.

Stephen Jones likes mediocrity. Safe. Vanilla. Boring. Passionless. Mediocre.

With Stephen, we're destined to pass over Randy Moss for Greg Ellis for eternity. This is who he is. He has no unique knowledge or skill or inspiration or creativity himself and so values that lack of quality in others.

All three phases. Right kind of guy. Stack the good days. This is what we get with Stephen. Garrett was his muse.

Funny how we used to count the days til when Stephen would take over….

Now I’m starting to think we’ll have the same “success” as the Raiders when old man Al Davis croaked and his photogenic son took over.
  • Contract negotiations are led by Stephen. They’ve almost all been late overpays.
  • Free Agency is led by Stephen. We have spent less on quality FAs than almost every NFL Team the last few years.
  • Salary Cap is led by Stephen. I’m not convinced the Cowboys have ever figured out how to make it work.
  • And now… Coaching hires are led by Stephen, and the Heir Apparent Era begins with the signing of… drumroll…. Brian Schottenheimer.
His only claim to fame is he convinced Jethro to draft Zack Martin instead of Johnny Manziel.

Once thought I was going to need to outlive Jethro to see my team in the Super Bowl again, but might be adding another 20 hard years on that now for Stephen Jones.

I guess you are unaware that he has been in charge for a while now. Jerry is doing an excellent job of taking the heat off of Stephen. Jerry is protecting Stephen. Stephen is and has been in charge of the salary cap for a very long time. He's a complete joke.

I think Stephen will be worse than Jerry…he is way more arrogant than Jerry; just listen to him talk about the salary cap and how they can’t afford to sign players and how the fans are lucky to have they players they do have on the roster.

Yes. Jerry used to make moves that got you excited. Stephen won't do that. And honestly if will mcClay leaves this may be the last draft that has a chance to make an impact.

This is bad. I think he's going to be worse. He has given zero indication he is interested in winning. Only on saving money. I'm starting to come to grips that I may be a senior by the time this team finds any success. Smh.
I just totally don’t understand the cheapness. Aside from this franchise being worth more money than any other. Is he too stupid to understand the more that is spent, the more he could make with an eventual championship or at least much more success?

Let me give you the long, honest answer

it will be worse

No Jimmy is coming through the doors to give us championships ok?

No Coach is coming here to do the right thing, got it?

Its over. JJ has turned the league around, its like MTV, technology will kill it. JJ will turn the league into an all year money machine.

There is zero point in winning the lombardi, its like winning the trophy on the street, no one cares.

He knows exactly which players bring back a portion of their salary in jersey sales, and he will pay whatever to retain those….but even with that they wait until the last minute as prices continue to increase.

The only reason to “let more leaves fall” is if a player may have a major injury so you back off….but the last two impending FA that had major injuries in December were signed anyway…and NOT at any discount.

The multi headed GM thing may be the problem, but I just generally think he isn’t any good at this. Thinks he can outsmart the league because he has more money than his NFL GM peers and was raised to think he is better than everyone else.

Maybe not perfectly accurate, but close.

You wanna take a bet on it?

Just kiddin, your spot on.

His father isnt the brightest but SJ is able to drag the already missing talent in the FO to a new low. More to that he is a penny-pincher. He will manage his fathers legacy. Nothing more. They are both not interessted in the sport itself.

For starters Jerry is a master salesman with a lot of charisma. Stephen has neither. Hopefully it will spin out of control quickly to the point of selling or getting real NFL people in to run it. I’m older than Stephen. I can’t count on waiting on Jerry’s grandchildren to run it differently.

Glad I’m not the only one that views that about Stephen. He won’t get away with this mediocrity with the media and fans like Jerry can. Jerry is the ultimate optimist and will attempt to sale. Stephen can’t do that.

I've been saying this for well over a decade - its obvious. Stephen is a clown with all his faux expertise with the cap and player evals, etc.
I recall him saying his most proud accomplishment was building the freaking star - so there is that lol.

It is going to be pretty bad but who knows if it will be worse than this. Maybe he gives up and does hire someone as GM after beating his head on the wall for several years, anything could happen.
I think this is definitely a possibility, JR is lazy Jerry isn't, JR won't want to put in all the time needed to run the organization and his skin is not nearly as thick as his dad's and he won't like all the criticism he will get from being on the hot seat so he will hire a GM to do most of the work and have someone else to blame.
