Are Turnovers Overrated?

Turnovers are an amazing thing, on defense you want to help your offense out as much as possible. What good is a turnover, if our offense can't capitalize on it? We get a turnover we clap, cheer, chug a big sip of beer, only for us to punt the ball back to the opposing offense?? ONCE AGAIN for the bashers, i'm proud of the culture of the coaches on this team that preaches turnovers, we just have to get points off of it, please give your thoughts

Dak would have appreciated that sentiment last season.....this year he's solid in that category.

Obviously yes points matter. Turnovers overall play a big part. The team that wins the turnover margin wins 70% of the time and when the turnover differential is 2 the win percentage goes up to over 80%.

Never. Regardless if you score you eliminate the opposition a possession. Possession’s in football are gold. Last week Buffalo had the ball for 10 more minutes than we did which is huge.

Currently we are +9 in margin and lead the league in only 12 TO’s lost as a team. To put that into perspective, Jaylon Hurts has 17 by himself this season.

id rather have a turn over than a sack. lots of sacks good Qbs are turning into positives on the next play, once you have the ball, you have a better opp to turn the game.

give me the turn over.

The game is all about turnovers. Even if your offense doesn’t score off a turnover they’re crucial. Force a turnover in the opposing teams side of the field? Your team should come away with at least 3 points. Force a turnover on your side of the field? You should be able to at least punt and now you’ve flipped field position and saved at least 3 points.

When is the last time we stuffed a 3rd and 1 or 2? I remember those days....I would take a few of these on key downs instead of the fact if we don't get turnoevers on D, we can't win games

Turnovers are one of the highest correlates to winning, so they matter a lot. Where they become overated is when your defense can’t make stops without them. Notice we are 0-4 in games without a defensive turnover.

Nope, you stopped the other team's offense and gave it back to yours.

Obviously they are a huge benefit. If you get one on your end of the field you've stopped them from likely scoring at least 3 depending on where it occurs. If you get it on their side you have set up the offense with a good chance to get points.

You answered your own question - points off turnovers are what matter. How many do you get and how many do you give up?
well if you get the other team to turn it over as they are about to score, or stop a nice drive, that matters too.
The details on each TO and when they happen and the effect on game all matter.

Just how many each game or in 6 games is kinda meaningless (Same for sacks)
For example lets say dallas is ahead by 30 points, and the game is over, and they get 5 sacks and 6 to's, those are all rather meaningless stat
numbers and they only mess up the stat totals in those 2 categories making them all meaningless.

Sack totals are all meaningless because they are bulk stats with no details.
A player can tackle a QB 1yd behind los and it is a sack stat, but is totally meaningless. they need to have details to have meaning.
The nfl likes to give fans meaningless bulk stats to excite them

Not unless it's 4th down and they're throwing a long pass. INT is like a punt in most cases.

There are assuredly more cases like this.
