Let's see......

Cowboys 10 victories produced 20 takeaways.

Cowboys 4 defeats produced 1 takeaway.

Cowboys 6-0 when not turning the ball over, 4-4 with at least 1 turnover.

After careful and intensive analysis, I have concluded that......no......turnovers are definitely not overrated.

I would say this is the most accurate answer. You wanna score and it's huge when you do but I think a meaningful possession has benefits as well.

Doing nothing with a turnover is a win for the other team.
THANK YOU!!!!

Turnovers are an amazing thing, on defense you want to help your offense out as much as possible. What good is a turnover, if our offense can't capitalize on it? We get a turnover we clap, cheer, chug a big sip of beer, only for us to punt the ball back to the opposing offense?? ONCE AGAIN for the bashers, i'm proud of the culture of the coaches on this team that preaches turnovers, we just have to get points off of it, please give your thoughts
Overrated or not, it’s a proven fact that the teams with the best turnover margins are usually in the Super Bowl

The game is all about turnovers. Even if your offense doesn’t score off a turnover they’re crucial. Force a turnover in the opposing teams side of the field? Your team should come away with at least 3 points. Force a turnover on your side of the field? You should be able to at least punt and now you’ve flipped field position and saved at least 3 points.
Field position is generally better than a punt. It’s one extra possession. They are huge though a bigger impact if you score. But important even if you don’t score because the other team doesn’t score

Yes turnovers matter. Turnover margins correlate stronger with wins/losses than any other statistic besides points scored/points allowed.

Worse case scenario a turnover should flip the field and give you defense a rest.

You answered your own question - points off turnovers are what matter. How many do you get and how many do you give up?
But turnovers stop a team from getting any points on that possession. That is never a bad thing.

Yes, capitalizing off turnovers is the next step to make them 'worth it' but a turnover itself is never overrated. Get them as much as you can to flip field position at the very least.
