Are we all looking at the actual problem?

You do realize how fruitless this thread is don't you?

Jerry is a healthy 65 year old man that very well could be running the Cowboys for another 10-15 years. What in the world has Jerry ever done to make ANYONE think he'll ever step down? Better get a new angle.

...as fruitless as the Cowboys record since 96. My guess is that after the new stadium is built he shoud be looking at the transition for his succession plan.

One thing that I think Jones never gets enough credit for is being a "football" guy.

As an owner, he has more playing experience than other owners and as a GM he has more than a great many of the so called "great" GMs out there.

Because he's not the greatest orator on the planet, some people equate that with stupidity. That's far from the truth, yet we hear the same tired few with their "Jethro" remarks.

He's made his mistakes, that's for sure, but every owner and every GM has. Another thing that most also overlook is that Owner/GM Jones has more rings than any other active owner except Kraft in NE who also has three.

...is the qeustion of whether his mistakes are repetitive or not. If it's the same ones over and over again, then you have a problem.

The past few weeks many have piped up with their concerns about the state of the Cowboys and the usual suspects have come round and round. Parcells, Zimmer, Rodgers, so on, so forth.

It seems a repeat of five years ago and I remember at that time much of the boards were focusing on one culprit. The owner.

Is it possible that much of what lies as the better future of the Cowboys may be found in the retirement or removal of Jerry Jones from the equation?

Could we be a better team with Stephen Jones at the helm? May we actually have an office in Valley Ranch for GM once again?

No we aren't missing the problem. A week doesn't go by where someone is wishing Jerry hand over the reigns to Stephen.

I'm persoanlly just glad boobers is gone.

...pretty "hands on" with hiring Garrett so early in the process.

That's the job of an owner/GM. Hiring the staff. He's gonna be hands on when he hires the head coach, too. ;)

It is pretty easy to blame Jerry Jones when things don't work out and he (with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight) has made a lot of bonehead decisions over the years. He has also made some good football decisions and made a buck or two. But Jerry lives by the words he spoke when he bought the Cowboys. I'm paraphrasing here..."There is no substitute for winning....we must win.....and we will win."

To have an owner that desperately wants to win is more than half the battle. I'm not sitting in judgment of the latest coaching search because they are all unknowns today. Parcells was supposed to be the closest thing to a sure bet you could find and we see how that worked out on the field. Potential means nothing. Performance is the only thing that matters and we will not know how its gonna work out until next season.

I believe there is no owner in the league who would approach this search with more passion and desire than Jerry Jones and you can toss in some knowledge about football as well. Who would do better?

I was scared he wouldn't show the patience needed to make the best hire.
When Norv was mentioned and then Garrett as HC that was scary. Jones seems to have settled down and is looking at all options. I give him credit for that. I'm still leery he will just settle and do some thing knee jerk.
