Are We (Cowboys Fans) Looking at this Objectively

All summer long I wanted nothing more than T.O. to prove to me that we made a smart decision. I wanted him to prove that he was worth the risk and could help us get back to the playoffs (something I still believe). Just when you think the unwarrented hamstring training camp circus is dying down, there's something new. There's always something new. Maybe the media's out to get T.O.? Maybe T.O. really needs help? It's hard not to seperate our intense love for The Dallas Cowboys when we look at this. What would our approach be like if he played for another team? Throughout the media circus yesterday, I went through of a whirlwind of emotions which ended with the assurance that T.O. appears to be O.K., maybe even playing this Sunday. Is he really o.k.? T.O. is built like He-Man but has the sensitivity of a 10 year old little girl. We all know this. We all know that money has nothing to do with an attempted suicide and in light of these new reports about his relationship, I'm beginning to wonder? There are holes in the facts and his sketchy publicist. Something is just not adding up. In T.O.'s PC, I saw the eyes of a troubled man. I don't want to believe any of it but crazy stuff keeps following this guy and I'm tired of getting mad at the media. I WANT NOTHING MORE THAN THE DALLAS COWBOYS TO WIN AND FOR T.O. TO BE A BIG PART OF IT. I just don't want this undying fact to cloud my judgement if this guy really has issues. Hopefully he's o.k. and this is just another episode of the media attempting to tear down an innocent man? Are we looking at this objectively?

Time will tell I suppose. I'm sure more questions will be asked and answered soon enough. I believe one of two things, it was either a bad reaction to the mix of drugs he was taking, or it was a cry for help, but not a suicide attempt. If he truely wanted to die, he could've easily taken the whole bottle. Whether he plays or not, I just hope the guy is OK, and I've never been a fan of his, but I don't want to see any human suffer through this type of stuff. I can't imagine the amount of pressure on him now, even though some of it he has brought on himself. Hopefully things will all work out, we just have to wait and see I suppose.

I think he was depressed and down with things going on in his life. We all go through these kinds of times. Did not see his son, just got out of a relationship. He has some good pills for his hand and I think he knocked himself out. Much like I go out and get hammered after a breakup. This is not a cry for help, dude was having a bad day. Is this the right thing to do? Probably not. We all need a break from reality though. I think it is fair to say that #81 has no substance history so I am sure it startled his publicist to find him messed up. He got 'caught' catching a buzz and the media took it from there. He made this bed a long time ago so i feel little pity for him and the way he is treated by the press. The Philly game is going to be that much more of a circus, if that is possible. I have no evidence to support my thoughts but I can see where it is very possible.

He probably does have issues. Dealing with them is another thing altogether.

The nicest thing would be to say, "oh let's get the guy counseling until he fixes his life." That's not practical from a lot of standpoints. First, we don't know if he's actually asked for help. If he did, & the team refused to give him help, that's one thing (didn't that actually happen with a Dolphins player this summer?). But you can't force him to get help if he doesn't want it, & the team can't keep him off the field for that reason either. The NFLPA will fight it (heck, they're supposedly still pursuing Quicy Carter's grievance, even tho he clearly had problems). Legally, there's nothing that can force him to get help either unless he's proving to be a danger to himself.

Sad reality is that many athletes have severe emotional issues. In fact, it's a surprise that as many of them turn out normal as do. That's why Parcells often talks about how he's glad to see players turning out well as human beings. Teams are going to continue to sign young men who are clearly emotionally bruised, pay them lots of money as long as they perform well during games, then cut them loose the minute they don't perform. We have to hope, for their sakes as human beings, that they have people around them who genuinely care about them & will help them thru life. Someone like a Mike Tyson has never had that--he's been used his entire life purely for his ability & his money. Once those ran out, he's a truly tragic individual who will probably meet a sad end. Guys like Terry Glenn & Keyshawn Johnson have managed to overcome their difficulties & will hopefully do well when their careers are over.

Unfortunately, I don't think TO has people around him who really do care about him. The "publicist" & Drew Rosenmouth are his friends because he's making a lot of money. Michael Irvin still has too many of his own problems to really be helping TO. I think that's why the guy manufactures drama--he has to, it's how he validates himself. It'll be very interesting to see what happens to him when his career is over. He'll have money but not much else, including his own self-esteem.

The comparison lies with neither of them having enough (any?) solid people in their lives that actually care about them instead of their net worth.

For Terrell, I think being with the Cowboys might be the best place he could be, as there's no question that we have a great group of players/people in the organization that may give him the stability he needs.

I've known for a long time that T.O has emotional problems and seems a bit unstable. (Not a Dr. or pshycologist by any means but his behavior is not normal) Is it much different than many star WR's - no, but seems a little more unstable to me.

That said, whatever happened the night before last does not have any bearing on how I view T.O.. If he did try, which I really don't believe at all, then I feel a bit for him and hope he gets it together and past it.

If he did not, then it is just an accident that could happen to anybody who takes so many different pills a day. I mean all these supplements would be hard to keep straight if you did not have another drug effecting your thinking like Hydrocodone does.

But, what happenned here is not something that anybody should come out and say - "I told you so, look at the problems he is causing, that is not the case at all and is not fair.

I will say this, Ben R. took a lot of heat from the media and some people on here for riding a Motorcycle without a helmet and thus causing problems for the team and Pittsburghs investment in him. I am not saying that these situations are the same, but the press did not treat him with kid gloves either.

Right. But the media and the TO haters (Engle and Gallowaste) leading the parade. Are acting as if this is another TO antic on purpose. When it was an unfortunate incident.

Sunday, when he plays, does well. Hopefully things will calm down. Until then have the batteries in the remote charged up. Because all the NFL shows will be competing for your viewing. So they will trick it up and have all kinds of spins.
