Are we getting another Taco, Trysten or Mazi?

....We know how the past has treated us. Unfair and un-lucky regarding some high picks. Lets hope they pick some winners this time.

I mentioned Mazi. Because Parsons believed this guy was going to knock it out of the park. Two years in, and we're still waiting for that Aaron Donald to arrive.. ;)..
W/ Jerry's complete inability to evaluate players, to go along w/ his refusal to do so, you never know. It's all guesswork w/ Jerry.

Given their track record you'd think they would hit on a stud defensive tackle by accident by now.
Yeah,
It's like the 1st rd d line scouting and 1st rd oline scouting are exact opposites.
Well, up until Guyton that is.
But the previous first rd 4 of Tyron, Zack, Fred and Tyler all met or exceeded their 1st rd pedigree expectation for olinemen.

Taco and Mazi are total busts as d linemen.
Unfortunately from the same school.

But I'm a huge fan of Graham(3T)and Grant(1T) from Michigan this year and man would that be a 1-2 combo to immediately change the whole defense and allow the team to actually be legit playoff contenders.
That's what I want out of this draft.
2 impact DTs.
And a RB.

Nah. 'Cause we ain't drafting a defensive lineman in the first round. Of course, if we were, we'd be taking him at the same spot we took Parsons, our best pass rusher since Ware.

The busts this team has drafted are numerous. It's what this front office does. They will most certainly do what they do again.

Why would we get a Taco or a Trysten instead of a CeeDee or a Micah?

Maxi played better in year two. He was drafted at the end of the first round. He’s got another year before you can lump him in with Taco and even then, he’s better.

McClay fostered the Donald expectation, with his War Room speech (followed by the organization putting him on a diet).
Sometimes you need to accept, you got it wrong, but gain whichever positives you can. As a 330 people mover, rather than pressurizing, he should be schemed to facilitate space for the pass-rushers through double teaming.

Its one way to deal with our drafting failures: make the past responsible.

Another view is: we are not good at drafting players. In fact we are a bad draft team.

The acclaim we got after we drafted 3 OL under Garrett is long gone. Just look at our last 8 drafts an tell me how many first day starters we were able to draft.

We werent even able to draft starters where the position we drafted was occupied by a medicore backup (in Mazis case).

The only good draft pick in the first round we had is Parsons. And he has only great talent written over him. Not much to see on the field so far as he disappears after 7 to 8 games and is a no show in the playoffs.

Please dont mention Smith. He was supposed to be our next LT. He wasnt even good enough to replace an injury riddled Tyron. Now he is an overdrafted OG. The least important position on the OL. We spend draft resources on OL players like we pay our QBs. Way overspending.

I guarantee you that isn’t going to happen. They just reupped osa and Mazi is a first rounder who apparently ( last few games) showed improvement

Who are you gonna sit the first rounder you just drafted ? Or the first rounder you drafted 2 years ago or the guy you just reupped.
I believe they will draft heavily on defense after they grab a WR and RB

Good thing is DT is deep in the draft this year perhaps they get a solid rotational piece

If the first 3 rounds address cb and the 2 previously mentioned spots with starters or key pieces I’ll be happy . I’m also not opposed to DE

Anyway it’s my favorite time of year. On another not how’s the band?

Obviously the NFL Draft is about projections and determining which guys can blossom in the NFL compared to the guys that may of had production in college but don't have the ceiling for the NFL. The guys who had great stats, great measurables and no known flaws typically go in the top 10.

After that, it's about either determining which guys have the ability but need coaching and or development and weighing their pros and cons. Taco IMO was a measurables and size pick. Projection that he could be that edge with size. His production his rookie year came from the LDE side. However, that was Lawrence main side and he blossomed to the point where he was going to stay there. Attitude and production made them quickly sour on Taco.
Mazi was also a traits guy, even though his "cons" were what we saw on Sundays. He may be explosive in terms of jumping, but was late off the snap to attack. Doesn't mean much if you're the last guy to get off the snap and the OL is already anchored.
Hill was another traits guy with red flags at UCF. They seemingly ignored his issues his last year there, why he was removed as a starter etc, cause his measureables was close to the DT's drafted in the 1st.

At 12, there may be a DT that has more pros than cons. However, I think with the re-signing of Osa, they won't take another DT higher, even if they could be an effective 1 tech off the start. The concerns about Nolen is a bit worrisome as I don't think Dallas has the right staff/FO to keep someone with maturity issues in check.
