Are years of losing hurting this team?

Im kind of wondering if the fact that we have had such bad personell and a tradition of losing lately is having an effect on the play calling?

It just seems like the Coaching Staff is stuck in a Time Warp. It is like they dont realize we have some real playmakers on offense and defense and that they dont have to coach games so conservatively and play to lose.

IMO, we have upgraded our QB position for the moment (even though I pray to God we draft one in the 1st round next year), and we dont have to play to not lose the game anymore. We have upgraded personell on just about every level, but it is like the Pre-Parcells dog leash is still on the offense and the defense and they dont take chances anymore.

I dont know how to explain it. Can anyone tell me why Zimmer was so very aggressive in 2003, calling all out blitzes and taking chances, and after that season being very passive and blitzing only when it is 3rd and long?

On 3rd and 1 we seem to be run the same old run Julius up the middle and have him fall down predictable stuff.

Thoughts?

No - because today DeMarcus Ware single handedly cost this team the game, and he's a rookie. If anything, the rooks are hurting us with their mistakes. Ware had three big penalties, including one that negating a sack and resulted in a field goal (meaning we had to drive the field for a TD at the end and not a field goal).

The traditional "losers" on this team are the only ones making a difference right now.

I think saying Ware single handedly cost us the game is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

Mike, I think it's not the losing, it's all Parcells. Besides his memories of his Giants days and wanting to create a team just like that, he made mention many times in preseason of playing this year like we did in 2003, when he ran the ball regardless of effectiveness to shorten the game. I'm afraid that 2003 team has fooled him twice now.

Ware doesn't line up in the neutral zone, Glover gets the sack, Oakland has to punt instead of kicking the field goal, Cowboys drive to the goal line, can't punch it in, kick a field goal and go into overtime.

Still think it's a stretch?

Look, I don't want to hang the kid, but it was a rookie mistake and just as big Bill said, those mistakes can cost you some games.

You know, if I hear another "Ware is a bust" or "Ware cost us the game" I think I am going to puke.

Ware was after the Quarterback all night and made some nice plays behind the line scrimmage.

If you are looking for a Red Herring, you better look at the Offensive Line. Now those guys really cost us the game.

I would say the offensive play calling, offensive line and then the run defense cost us the game.

Just a sec, let me get a bag. :p:

The kid had three big penalties, that's all I'm saying. It just so happens that his last penalty cost us 3 points, and those 3 points were big in this game.

The offensive line played poorly, mostly in the area of picking up the blitz. Bledsoe doesn't take enough chances downfield. The play calling was bad, and having Barber in the game instead of JuJo on that 3rd and 1 (resulting in a second field goal instead of a TD), that was just wrong.

But that Ware penalty was the kicker. That's all I'm saying here. And rookies will do that. Bill gave him an earful when he came off the field.

Who says Oakland would have had to punt? It would have been third-and-12 at our 44. Even if the Raiders gained only half of that, they still would have gotten a field goal out of it.

Any time you lose a close game you can look at quite few areas and say "That cost us the game." I don't buy it. Ware didn't lose this game by himself. He had plenty of help.

If you want to point to one play, how about Johnson's illegal motion, that cost us four points. If it is 19-17, then we run the ball at the end of the game and kick the FG to win.

Mr Green it would be very interesting to know just how many games we did win in the Glory Days.......The intimidation factor, that swagger, players simply refusing to lose., one of the play makers on both sides of the ball making the big catch, the big sack, the Int, causing a fumble.........We are missing the players playing with confidence and looking for that moment to make a game changing play.

No...... we are playing not to lose...instead of playing too win.

Last I checked, football was a team sport with 3 major phases to the game, Offense, Defense, and Special Teams , with 45 active players with distinct responsibilities to score, defend the goal, and secure field position. Seems to me it would be pretty impossible for ONE player to lose a game.

I do. Crappy play calling the last 4 plays of the game sealed out fate.

The play calling was horrendous today. No runs to the outside. Was there even any play action plays. The 4 downs at the end of the game, all typical designed plays a 6th grade defense could have read. No creative thinking there, not trick plays, but just nothing disguised. What happened to the TE slipping into the end zone after looking like he was going to run block. Those plays were hurried like they were in a panic. They had plenty of time.

The coaching cost us this game.
