Are you an ORCA? Overly Reactive Critical Analyst

I guess you're not talking about me, I'm a fan. That's short for "fanatic". I'm crazy.

I'm a manic depressive nightmare when it comes to the Cowboys to the point where I probably require therapy. Of course, I wouldn't go.

I defy logical explanation. I yell at the TV as if the team can hear me. I watch the game and the level of my emotional outbursts depend on a TV show that features a bunch of grown men playing with a funny shaped ball. Of all the things in the world to control my mental well being, I have chosen this team and this game.

When the Cowboys win, the world is a paradise. The sky is blue, the grass is green, the birds sing their melody of joy.

When the Cowboys lose, the world is a dark, cold place. Life is a never ending struggle, The only relief is death.....or a Cowboys victory the following week.

My wife claims I talk in my sleep when the Cowboys lose......."stupid Cowboys....they lost".. over and over....

Yes, I have that sickness. I don't have "ourselves" when the Cowboys lose. I don't want anybody. A dying animal prefers to find a lonely corner and just wait for the end.....or a Cowboys victory the following week.

Well, don't feel lonely because you have plenty of company, this poster included. I quick snap during games into anger and I haven't done that in years. And I wonder why? Could it be that after all this time, I am actually expecting something from this franchise?

I don't remember the last time I got upset when the Cowboys aren't playing well. Maybe it's age/perspective, maybe it's lower expectations after the last 20+ years, or a combination of both. Probably both.

I still look forward to games and enjoy the good moments, but I'm no longer surprised when things don't go well. This is only the Cowboys 8th playoff berth in the last 22 years, so I've seen enough bad play to no longer be surprised by it.

Losing in the first round of the playoffs would not surprise me. Winning the Super Bowl would surprise me. It was the opposite in my mind in the 20th century.

This Franchise has not won diddly squat in over 25 years.

Looking at the history of this franchise before then its perfectly normal to be very dissatisfied and thus no kool aid or homerism tolerated.

And Living.....
Spot on post!!!!:hammer:

I would just love to see our Offense and Defense and ST play together in the playoffs.

I'm not overly reactive anymore but I'm still a critical analyst.
I think we all deserve to be a little critical after 26 years of loyalty and not sniffing a super bowl.
I think we all are a little frustrated especially seeing how successful our owner is in every other aspect of his life. It's almost ridiculous that he can't assemble a team to go to the super bowl in 26 years.

I mean honestly a man with that much money and power who has the money to employ the very best in every facet of the franchise how can you settle for failure 26 years in a row.

That said if this length of time I have adjusted my expectations and making the playoffs is about all I think we are capable of doing while Jerry is in control so I will accept it and enjoy it as far as it goes.

Yes I get caught up in the fact that we have such a talented roster it seems almost impossible for us to fail. But when I see our star players sitting unmasked at the Mavericks game it just reinforces that talented can't fix stupid and stupid teams don't win super bowls

As many of us hail from the Landry glory years and have watched this team implode over the past 25 years under the same moronic style of management, we should be critical and have more than earned the right. Everything Jerry does on the football side is fair game.

In all seriousness, I would like to see us get beyond the divisional round of the playoffs. I've yet to see that. But, on the other paw, I've been trying to and am more successful at it now of not letting the Cowboys dictate my happiness. This is just a game afterall.

If I was playing to the crowd, I'd be calling for rope and yelling "let'em swing".

I don't know about the others' expectations, except the ones that expressed them, but I did not expect this defense. I did expect to win the East based on a weak division and that offense but to get that defense. A defense that actually has me looking forward to them taking the field is totally new of me. Not since the 90's have I felt that way.

I also feel that this team can beat any team in the playoffs and lose to any one of them as well. But I will surely take that over not having a team in the tournament.

You were also a younger, more energetic person in the 90's with a football team that gave you legitimate hope every year. Now, we settle for playoff appearances and celebrate division titles.

ORCA? Are you saying we're fat??

But seriously, I'm just enjoying the ride for now. Lord knows, it's been such a long draught for us! So, I will take anything extra that I can get!! :)

Agreed...It's bad enough I get emails all the time about weight loss products. Now I got to come in here and get called Orca!?!?!

My New Year's resolution? Go after Risen Star's Likes lead.

Every morning I awaken and go to the hall and address the Mirror of Likes.

Mirror Mirror on the wall, who has the most Likes of all?
The Mirror says I don't have to look far, that is the one known as Risen Star.
He gathers Likes like lilies in the field and none of his Likes he will ever yield.
To pass him will be too hard as he seeks the Like Lifetime Achievement Award.

first great post ...for me I enjoy when they win and I move on when they lose.. I can't take seriously an issue that I have no control over.. I enjoy coming here more for all the great people

Now as for @Risen Star just be careful when you approach him .. when it comes to his likes collections the man is swift and deadly

I'm like others here, while I'll still get excited, it's not the same as the 90s or even the Romo years. As a little kid I cried at the Steeler SB losses and of course The Catch.ha

I think this team can beat anyone, but I really question if they can put 3 complete games together in a row in the playoffs

Playing to the crowd now CC.

But no, I detached my emotions years ago. My wife even has to nudge me sometimes as I’m drifting off.

I just won’t allow myself to get hyped up over our franchise any longer . My cup is full from the glory eras regardless what happens .

I don’t have much room in my Cave for any new championship memorabilia anyway. It’s beginning to fill up with Baylor banners . Lol

My fandom has come full circle and my once dormant school has become a power in sports while my former one is mostly a laughing stock now hoping for a miracle . I guess if you live long enough we can see hell freeze over :)
Honestly, I am the same as you. I make it a point to watch all of our games but when we perform as what feels like our normal inconsistent selves, I will start doing other things and the game becomes back ground noise. We moved into a new to us house last year. We decided to upgrade. I have yet to unpack all of my Cowboys stuff yet. I'll get around it or maybe I won't. I am not really a NFL fan anymore even though I wont miss a Cowboys game and love the Star as much as I did when I was a kid watching Tony Dorsett.

I've also found myself shifting to other interests as well. I still make it a point to get the Cowboys games when I can, and my fursuit has lots of Cowboys stuff on it. That said, I'm much more into the fandom than the NFL. Like, I watched part of the Cowboys Saints game while I was in Chicago, but I found it more enjoyable to just wear my fursuit and hang out at the con. And I'm supposed to be one or if not the biggest Cowboys fans in the fandom and I've got that reputation around the fandom.

I would like for the several younger generations of fans to have the same excitement that older fans had in the 70s and 90s……..when a team wins a SB in one’s youth, it carries for along time

if your fortunate enough to be a fan of a team that has a mini dynasty, like the 90s team,it can last a lifetime

I just wonder how long it’s going to take to lose all of our Wagon fans from around the country and our horrid America Teams label which has haunted and targeted us just like Landry said it would.

25 years isn’t long enough. Maybe 40 or 50. I guess everyone who hopped on from glory eras will need to die off.
We're going to need a smaller boat.
