Are you like me and wish that PI was called again like it used to be?

These days, refs seem to almost routinely allow the CB or S to arrive a tick early before the ball, and let them get away with that. I hate that. I'd like to see it get "point of emphasis" treatment next season. No more of this crap. Saw it all weekend (again).

It's called plenty. I've seen too many teams just chuck it up and get 40-50 yards for next to nothing.

I'd like them to make PI reviewable. It can be such a costly penalty being a spot foul that it should get special treatment.

It's reviewable in Canada. CFL coaches can even challenge a non-call against their receiver, and get PI.

I think there's way too much contact between the DB and the receiver past few years, especially on long throws into the endzone. A lot of hand grabbing, fighting, holding, etc... The "let them play" mantra doesn't work if the WR doesn't have the ability to make the catch. Seems like only blatant PI is being called nowadays. Thought it was just me...

Yes. Let's also slow down the game for nearly every incomplete pass too.

Can you say micromanage? Enough of it.

I think there's some validity to that concern.

I'm content if the refs just do a better job of calling it as it's already in the rules, and always has been... defender can't hit the receiver until the ball arrives.

Point of emphasis shouldn't be asking too much, imo.

Another way we might make it a more balanced situation...

If the defense can be penalized 40 yards for defensive interference, why can't the offense also be penalized 40 yards if it's on them?

(Just thought of that, so don't be bashful to shoot it down, but on the surface, it seems only fair.)

I'd just like to see it called consistently. If you're going to allow early contact, then allow it all the time so that the receivers can know what to expect and adjust to it. It can't be interference one time and not interference the next.

Hmmm. Wonder if there's been any increase in pass attempts...

But that's all it's own separate, though related, topic.

Again, I don't care about numbers.

Call it when it should be called. That's all I'm saying.

Yes, call it consistently.

But no, don't allow early contact. Consistently throw a flag for early contact. That's what I want to see. The rule has always served the game well... just use it.

I too would like it called consistently. One thing I found funny, coincidence or not, was the late flag for PI.

Some Contact, incomplete, and the receiver gets up yelling throwing up his hands. 5 seconds later out comes the flag.

This does not surprise me at all. There is hand fighting on almost every play. I am of the opinion that if the WR initiates hand fighting he should not get a call. It seems passing stats are down a bit the last 2 years for the most part so it woiuld not surprise me to see a change. There is just so much hand fighting these days that it is hard to distinguish and hard to make a call. I don't know how you fix it.

Im not sure I want the rule itself changed but I damm sure want it called consistently. Five yards of contact and then stay the hell off the pass catcher. Now days sometimes receivers get mugged and no call, then sometimes they call it if the DB farts near the receiver.

It is completely and absolutely inconsistent and I have zero idea when it will be called anymore.

Yes, it's much better to see a WR fall down near a defender and see the flag come out. God forbid you take a few seconds during a tv commercial to make sure it was called correctly.
