Are you still ok with skipping FA?

Turns out that signing players in Free Agency isn't a bad thing and can actually help your team if you spend money on good players.

The Vikings beefed up their OL, the JAguars made trades and signed bigtime FA's, The Patriots and Eagles both were involved in FA and trades.

Meanwhile... Dallas only signs scrubs and relies on the draft.

We do like to pigeon hole ourselves though.

I think there are windows when Free Agency can help you and times where it can hurt but the founders of the secret sauce need to get ahead of things and stop being so reactionary and not pigeon hole themselves into a philosophy that FA doesn't work because clearly it does.

They need to be smarter and throw a little more cash at it.

I’m not to big on throwing huge money at a guy like they did withCarr

Unless he’s this generational type player that somehow got loose from his team.

Still ok? Was never ok. Ignoring FA is a losers game. It's not the only tool to build a team, but you need to use it correctly.

lol seriously. who is this aimed at? which of us wouldn't like to acquire a difference maker?

We should if there's a quality player out there that fills a need..........we don't have anyone in the FO capable of making a trade that works in our favor.

I always believed in signing FA's taking chances.

Whenever Jerry does and it doesn't work out, he gets burned by fans, especially when we were all on board with it along with him. So I don't blame the front office for saying screw it, and letting us suffer

There was a 3-4 year stretch where this franchise needed to go cheap and let some big contracts roll off the books. We are past that.

I think with a good stache of draft picks, the Cowboys have an opportunity to target a couple solid starters who can fit our scheme and cover up some holes. Then we can really go best available in the draft. I will be against the top 5 free agent player on the market. I think they are fools gold almost all the time. And when they get hurt or don't live up to the contract, it hurts you in the long run.

I would like to see them be aggressive with 1,2, or 3 guys when free agency opens.

it comes down to building teams some front offices and gm's know what they are doing and have a plan on what they need to do to make their team better. The cowboys are not one of these team

I've never been okay with it. Posters who are against it act like if you sign free agents you somehow have to forego the draft.

But this isn't baseball -- you can do both. And the best teams, like the Patriots, do.

Denver basically bought a superbowl.

Dallas has a very talented young group of players and I don't know why they wouldn't try to boost the team up even more in FA.

Maybe we wouldn't get carved up by Rodgers, Rivers, MAtt Ryan, and any other elite QB anytime we face them.

Instead they trotted out rookies and no depth at LB and it probably cost us the playoffs.

They need to figure out how to start developing talent in Frisco before spending big money in FA. FA may let you take a shot at getting lucky short term, but if you want a consistent contender, you need depth. Jerry only looks at the starting 22 (really - 11) and ignores what it takes to build a successful program.

Depth, not FA, is what allowed those teams to be where they are right now.

I mean when we have to dole out contracts to Martin and Lawrence, are we really "skipping" it?

Not many free agents I want more than those. A strong MLB and depth on O-Line would be nice though, and maybe not too expensive.

hey...we have always had a penchant for picking up past Jags....I would be all for that this FA!

I would be very disappointed if we followed the same strategy in free agency this year. It doesn't work if you're trying to rebuild your team through free agency, but if you're a player or two away from getting over the hump it can be very impactful. Unfortunately I don't think you'll see the Cowboys be active players and just retain their own. I expect to see a swing tackle brought in, a rotational 1st, and some other bargain players. Personally, I rather the Cowboys resign their own and then hand out one nice contract to a player that actually upgrades something instead of handing out a number of contracts to a rotational guy, or below average to average starter.
