Are you worried about Nick Folk?

That has been a constant refrain in e-mails and chats we've had lately. After all, Nick Folk has missed six field goal tries this year after missing seven in his first two seasons.

He was so good in 2007-08, that he was taken for granted some. But he essentially did not have an off-season because of hip surgery when he's able to build up leg strength and do some technical things to his kicking.

And he's also working with a new holder for the first time in punter Mat McBriar.

Coach Wade Phillips has some worries about Folk but he thinks Folk's personality is a little different from most kickers he's been around. Some kickers are just different, like lefty pitchers.

"We've kicked him from a good distance a lot," Phillips said. "You're not going to make all of them. We expect him to make all of them and he expects to. I think just because of his mindset he'll come through it all right."

Let's look at the distance thing - Folk has made 4-of-8 between 40-49 yards. In his first two seasons he was 17-of-18. That's pretty automatic right there.

"He hasn't missed what you would call a clutch kick yet," Phillips said. "That's where he's always been really strong."

Some concerns but willing to hang in there with him. Phillips is right when he said in clutch situation Folk has done the job. Folk needs to continue working to get back to where he was.

Yes im worried. He's missed 3 field goals in 3 straight games. We need a confident kicker going into these games especially on the road. Confident isn't a word id associate with Folk at the present time.

I am getting close to being worried, but folk said after his surgery, he was like 5 months off of schedule like right now he is like at the start of the year.

so i guess we have to wait and see alittle yet, then go from there,

Who wants Cundiff back?

Not me. Folk has been clutch for us. He has been off and will have to work his way through this.

exactly. I dont doubt this kid and his leg. A few misses is okay in my book comapred to what we used to have.

Although I am concerned about how long will this last, I believe that he will come around.

I got a little curious about his misses vs our losses. Here is what I found.
Giants loss:
Folk 1/1 (47 yds)
Denver loss:
Folk 1/1 (49 yds)
Green Bay loss:
Folk 0/1 (Crosby also missed one which is a wash :p: )

These were not losses do to Folk missing a FG. Not saying that it is not momentum loss, but simply that we did not lose these games do to a miss by him.

Folk better work through it now, because he is going to have to start making these kicks. 4-8 from 40-49 yards isn't going to cut it; it will land your team in trouble, eventually.

If he keeps missing them, I would try the Super Kicker.

I just wonder if Folk is the same after hip surgery, because the drop off is evident.

So 50% from 40 to 49 yards is not a worry???

For a 40 yard kick, the ball is spotted on the 23 yard line. If your kicker is missing half of his kicks when the ball is on the 20 something yard line............IT BETTER BE A HUGE WORRY!!!!!

My worst nightmare is to be done in by a kicker, we've been through that already, I don't want to go back to that!

Folks done

I got Eddie Murray on the line, and he says he'll kick for you. Who else you want? Cortez? Seder? Jon Hilbert?

I know Wade says he has not missed any crucial kicks but.....

Have we had any this year?

I am concerned about him. I don't trust him right now. I do believe he will get it straight though - just don't know when.

I would hate to be counting on him for a game winner from 45 right now!
