Areas of Concern for Me

1. The Saints game and yesterday's game started out with the Cowboys up 14-0, from which point they were able to control the flow of the game and reduce the impact of the opposition's run game. I hope that happens again, but it's tough.

2. The defense is playing extremely well but still not generating turnovers. The one fumble recovery yesterday was the result of a bad snap and bad hands by McNabb. The D needs to be more aggressive in stripping balls away (something Spencer seems to be developing some skill at).

3. Still so much shotgun. Though JG came up with a way to run play-action from the shotgun yesterday. He might have flashed that just to give the Eagles something to think about.

4. Newman. Still waiting to hear if his limping off yesterday was something serious. Ball played well in his place, but with Jackson and Macklin on the field, I want the best Cowboy CBs out there.

Dallas D is playing great ball 1st time in franchise history that they have shut teams out back to back. I would like to get more turnovers but as we saw with philly who is good about getting turnovers they also get burned big time when they get over aggressive trying to jump pass routs.

As for Newman he did return in the game.

TNew came back the very next series. Also, other than letting Jackson get behind him once, he played very well.

Speaking of that Newman injury. Why didn't scandrick come in to replace him instead of Alan ball? Did I miss something?

I think they like having scandrick in the slot and Ball working outside

He looked OK, but it also seemed like they were giving him extra help, which is understandable.

Tony is a different case, he looked pretty stiff last night even when he was taking a knee in that last series. Seemed like last season he would start to stiffen up in games weeks after his initial injury. This entire offense has been riding on his shoulders this season, hopefully he will recover completely from that hit.

we were still in nickel i believe, so Scandrick was out there covering the slot.

With the exception of TNew (who always seems to be out of position these days) our secondary is playing tight right now. I think that, just as you didnt see alot of blitz from Philthy, you didn't see alot from Dallas either. I think we beat Philthy flat out and all this talk about them laying down is a crock of ****. I'm pretty sure they would have loved having a bye week. It won't surprise me if Jackson isn't gimped. He limped around the last quarter after getting rolled up on a little out route. I'm feeling a beat down coming for Philthy...again.

I think Newman is doing good as well. If Newman was such a weak link Philly would have attacked him all night long and would have made more plays they didn't. I do think Jenkins is our top CB but I don't see Newman as a liability for the defense by any means

Its hard to complain about the defense when it is most likely the best in the league as of today.

Having 2 bigtime corners on the outside helps us so much.

Our only weak link on defense right now is mental breakdowns.

We're pretty much as stacked as you can get on that side of the ball from a talent perspective.

...of nice corners right now and they have played well down the stretch. Let's pray for a healthy run during the playoffs.

As for weaknesses on the team I am hoping the safeties cover their assignments well and keep the communications of coverage clean and clear.

I don't like the situation with our FG kicker. From Folk to Suisham we have let this devolve to a situation of fear.

No one from fans, to players and coaches has any confidence in our team being able to make a FG without that private little hush and tension. This is a critical part of the game and Decamillis has to get on Suisham to come through for this team.

I believe JG has some good plays in his arsenal for getting us the yard on 4th and 1, but I still would like to see our o-line man up get pushes when we need them to do so.

It's always nice to see both sides of your line impose their will on an opponent.

FG kicker! That was the area of concern I forgot to mention. I don't like the situation there at all (and I doubt anyone does). You have to expect playoff tournament games to be close, and close games require every point you can get.

With Suisham missing a 30-yarder, you can't have much confidence in him at all, despite hitting that 44-yarder.

Newman had 2-3 bad plays yesterday and it's becoming a habit for him. He took a horrible angle on a WR screen and was toast, and just straight up got burned deep though McNabb over threw the WR. He failed to tackle too.

Everytime you have posted something lately, it is completely opposite from what actually happen. Not attacking you, just taking notice.

I agree and even that has become less and less. When you stop and think about it having back to back shutouts is very difficult to do in this day and age of football yet this unit has done what no other Dallas defense has done. To me that is pretty amazing and shows how good this defense is becoming.

Has newman missed some plays yes he has also made plays he has also had good coverage on many occations which is why McNabb was holding on to the ball and throwing under the coverage because he did not have a man open. You want to say Newman has made mistakes I'll agree but no I don't think he is a liablity and is still a pretty good CB. As for my comments please you guys have whine about Garrett, Newman, Wade and a host of other things you have writen this team off and now all of a sudden you are right? :laugh2: This team won the NFC East and has one of the best defenses going if Newman was that big of a problem we would not be shutting people down.

1) An area of concern for you is the Cowboys getting the lead and controlling the game? I don't see how that's a concern. Even if we don't get a 14-0 lead, I feel very confident in this teams ability to score points with the best of them.

2) That fumble recovery counts. Most bad snaps are because the center is trying to get out of his stance too fast... or just plain nervous. Both are to be credited to the defense. EVEN if we get 5 interceptions a game, what does it matter if they're holding teams to 0 points? Turnovers, or no turnovers - 0 points is 0 points.

3) Shotgun is a very good formation vs. the blitz.. something the Eagles are going to do a lot of this weekend.

4) At this point, I don't know where Newman ranks. I didn't notice it *too* much while he was gone, so it's not a concern for me. Everyone talks about Philadelphia is going to do different this weekend - don't you think the Cowboys will do "different" things? Perhaps the 'Boys will blitz a lot more.. or play more man. Who knows - regardless, Newman or no Newman - I won't lose much sleep. Now, if #21 limps off the field.. color me worried.

If we can run it at the start like yesterday their LBers and safeties have to respect that opening up everything else, IMO. They are going to get a few shots downfield every game. They are very explosive. We must pressure McThrowup constantly and hope he misses when he does get the opportunity. Witten is playing great as is Crayton.
