Areas of concern

Some problems have been resolved.

1. Backup QB appears to be resolved. Of course it is early but Dak is an impressive specimen with brains and all of the physical tools needed. I see no reason to add another QB.

2. The secondary looks to be improved. Scandrick is back, Claiborne is playing well. Jones at FS offers hope. Church and Carr are adequate and some of the backups look like they have some skills. I would still like to see premium picks used on SS and CB in the future but the secondary looks much improved.

3. The DT position is better than it is has been in a long time. A very nice rotation with legitimate starters and a lot of players with upside potential.

4. RB of course. Maybe overkill. Will probably have to release a guy that would have been a starting caliber player at this time a year ago. Mcfadden or Dunbar might be gone.

These are all bright spots but the team still has some challenges.

DE - No need to explain

Swing tackle - Chaz Green just doesn't seem to get it.

LB - Outside of Lee this are is a huge concern to me. Hopefully next year we get Jaylon Smith but this year the pantry looks bare. Hopefully someone can emerge especially in the middle. The SAM position isn't impressive either but less of a problem area.

FB - less of a concern but it would be nice to have a legit FB if we are going to be using one with certain packages.

Areas that are less concerning this year but could pose problems in the future.

WR - Williams last year of contract. Will he show up? Can Butler or Street contribute and end up being legit?

TE - despite multiple attempts to use resources for the eventual replacement for Witten no one has really shown the ability to take over when he hangs them up.

No team is loaded at every position but DE and LB are of particular concern. I hope some players can rise to the occasion.

I think that's a really good analysis of everything. I would just add another problem that seems to be resolving itself is the return game with Lucky. He's got that burst that good kick returners possess.

There's no question the biggest concern is DE. Hopefully, it will evolve and we can hang in there until Lawrence gets back. I also think it's why we are seeing some more blitz packages from Marinelli.

Whatever it takes at this point.

Safety is by far the thinnest position on the team. We have three guys (Jones, Church and Heath). That's it. Wilcox is going to get cut (let's hope) and Frazier is PS at best.
Predicting we add another at final cuts .

Also don't see a fourth TE on the roster. If we go zero fullback we will keep 4. Can't count on Hanna at this point

I agree with your assessment. It's right on. As for linebacker- get Tulloch in here ASAP. Gachkar is hurt and only good for ST anyways, Nzeoacha has an Achilles strain- that's not good. Our depth is paper thin, if Lee gets injured, we are done at LB. Absolutely done.

Oh and I have come to realize that Russell is not the answer at DE. He can only hope that he will be as serviceable as mincey or George Selvie. He doesn't even flash. I'm tired of all the camp fluff pieces, they got my hopes us with these young and upcoming DEs. I'm not banking on Mayowa to be the answer either. If he does show something, I will be pleasantly surprised and grateful.

It would be nice to package Leary and DMC for a good DE. I don't like the idea of losing a solid OLman but it might need to be done.

My initial thought after reading this was we have to keep Leary because Chaz Green has shown nothing. The backup plan at T could be Martin or Collins and Leary moving to guard.

After thinking about it a little bit longer, I think you are right. DE is a huge problem and Leary Mcfadden for a legit DE makes a lot of sense. I would also consider trading them for a MLB.

I think we have a formidable roster at this point in TC. Why does everyone want to make changes just to make changes. Let's see what happens next in the preview game. Then go from there.
There is no one out there, no team is going to trade away a good DE or a good prospect. Not tat this point, and only if injures happen.
I know it's good to speculate and discussion material. But it is just not the time for it, trades that is.
If you constantly want to churn the roster, the end product will never come to fruition.

I would love to snag Graham from Seattle. Wilson doesn't utilize him like he should

Green looked bad in the first game he'd played in a year. He played better last night. I'm not giving up on him quite yet.

Swaim had a bad game one too, and he'll never be Jason Witten but I have high hopes for the guy.

IMO the red zone pass defense needs to be worked on a lot.

We are not going to trade for a DE. We have plenty of talented youth and DLaw returning will only solidify that spot.

TE and WR depth is actually good for this year. We need to be looking at veteran Ss and OTs at cut downs.

LB is a problem area, but at least we've got guys to develop in Wilson and Nzeotcha. Durant and Gachkar are about as good as any vet we could hope for as far as cut downs go for that group.

As long as we keep some big bodied linemen in front of Sean Lee so he's free to roam I feel good about our LBs. Especially because we're in nickel something like 65% of the time.

The primary reason I'm not concerned about the Cowboys LB's is because of that fact.
