I haven't heard anything about Arkin in this offseason but we have kept him around for some reason. He hasn't played at all. Could he be like Austin who seemed to come out of nowhere to contribute, or will he be cut prior to the start of the season like I expect him to be?

If they don't expect him to be a major contributor this year why keep him on the roster?

I'd love it if he shows up and blows everyone away this year, but I'm not betting the rent money on that happening.

To turn your question around, why would they cut him at this point? There is no harm or money wasted in bringing him to camp and seeing if he's ready to contribute. If he's not, I'd expect he's gone before the season starts.

You can add Arkin to the long list of guys we've pinned out hopes and dreams to. I suspect Leary will soon join that list as well. Good thing we made him the highest paid UDFA in NFL history.

You can add Arkin to the long list of guys you have no idea how they are going to play next year nor how the club feels about him. People sure do like to quit.

Glad Robert Brewster still has some supporters in the house.

Leary made less than 400,000 last year.

I am glad Arkin and he are not the same person. He might very well fail but I am not going to just assume he is because I require emotional insurance.

I don't want to overstate it since it's a drop in the bucket, but that's a lot of guaranteed money for an undrafted rookie.

Great, I'm glad you've found an approach that works for you. It's no skin off my back, I don't see why it bothers you so much that other think differently.

You've gone down the thread list and called someone's opinion worthless, another person's narrow-minded and declared me a quitter. Now I need emotional insurance, whatever that may be.

Do you feel like you have to insult the opinions of others to have yours heard?

He was only drafted 2 years ago. It doesn't make sense to invest a 4th round draft pick on someone and cut them loose so soon when you know it will be a couple of years before they are ready to contribute. Can he play in this league? I don't know. But it doesn't make sense to cut him already.

The guarantee really makes no difference at this point. They paid him less than it would cost to keep a rookie 7th round draft pick on the roster.

If they drafted an OLineman in the 7th round and kept his on the roster all year, he would probably have had the exact same contribution as Leary, yet nobody would complain about it.

Caleb McSurdy 2012:

59K signing bonus

Ron Leary 2012:

390K base salary
9K signing bonus

You get the gas face whenever you ask any of these Dallas area writers about Arkin. Even the guys at the team website.

Arkin is I guess an example of the idea that small school players sometimes remain small school players.

I had hoped that since his school had no W/T program that he would be able to get strong enough to become a good starter.

However it looks like he is only good for making OTHER small school players look bad.

And if some other team would have signed him to their roster when the cowboys moved him to the pratice squad anything the other team paid him would have lowered the guaranteed money by that amount I believe. It was a pretty shrewd move imo.

Yea, the Leary signing probably will set the franchise back for years.

You misspelled Arkin. How do you get "Robert Brewster" out of Arkin, unless your trying to make a point for your agenda?
