First, let me say that I'm happy we drafted Arkin - seems like a tough, good player. Only real concern is whether he has the strength to anchor against the bigger, stronger DT/NTs out there. Going back to draft day, many of you probably recall the reaction when we passed on Will Rackley in the 3rd for Murray. We saw a highly ranked guard sitting on the board as we drafted another RB. Many of us were very disappointed that we passed on Rackley. I still don't think we needed to pull the trigger on a RB that early but, hopefully, Murray will prove to be special. Well, one round later we drafted Arkin which made some of us feel a little better. His profile was somewhat similar to Rackley's and he was ranked just a few slots below him. My question is, although it's still VERY early, how has Rackley looked? Does anyone know? Although there's nothing we can do about it now, I'm curious to see if he has started off well. As I've said, I like Arkin (and I also have high hopes for Murray). This thread is really more about curiosity than "rue". :)

As far as I know, he's been getting second team reps behind Spitz. The fanbase is excited about him. Sounds like it's still an open competition at LG, though.

Wouldn't have been nice to get them both.
Murrey better be something special.

It will be intersting to compare the careers of Arkin and Rackley (and Murray as well) and see if they made the right choice or not.

Made it all the way to the 3rd reply before the sarcastic "rue" response. About what I expected. No real rue yet. Now if Murray is nothing special and Rackley kicks butt, there will be. Although I don't profess to know nearly as much as scouts know about players (not even close of course), there have been more than a few instances where I (and many fans) had hoped for a player and Dallas passed on him unwisely. Many of us couldn't believe we passed on Steven Jackson. I remember us passing on WR Frank Sanders in order to take a backup RB (Sherman Williams) when we needed a starting WR in '95. This situation reminded me of that one. Passed on a player where need seemed to meet value to draft a backup (I know the RB situation is different right now compared to then, but the point is the same). I know Dallas stuck to its board and that's what one should do but, looking at our guard situation, one can wonder if we missed an opportunity. Like I said, I'm pulling for Arkin and Murray big time. I think this will turn out to be a very good draft. I was just curious about how a player many of us wanted is doing since we're currently watching a similar rookie possibly fight for a starting position on this team.

and we have probably passed up on a lot of hot picks that people convienently forget busted. Taylor Mays anyone?

I'll call that and raise you a Max Unger.

;)

I've got zero idea of how Rackley is doing other than the fact that he's in a similar situation to where Arkin finds himself.

At this point, I don't really see the benefit in comparing the two. Nothing can be done either way just like I don't understand the comparisons of Felix to Chris Johnson.

If Rackley ends up better, it won't mean a thing because we have Arkin.

I don know if Unger is a bust. He was a 2nd round pick who is a starter.

That's my point. We ended up with the stellar combo of Jason Williams and Robert Brewster instead.

How dare you ask how players on other teams are doing sir. You are allowed to freak out about our players but other teams have made genius moves that we should have. Know the rules and follow them.

Loved Rackley personally.

we didnt have a shot at Unger, Jerry wanted him but he was picked before we could get him.

Seems we got other players when we wanted them...

The team had something like 12 draft picks that year and could have easily packaged a few to get a few quality players. Instead, we got the 'Debacle known as 2009'.

This team is much better off when they go after players they want rather than sitting on their hands.

Yes but we were sitting there with about a million picks in what was described as a weak draft. I have no doubt that we could have moved up with a few of those picks to get Unger

The pick we traded was used on Andy Levitre who has been a starter for the Bills -- yes, it is the Bills, but still.

Not only did we sit on our hands and move back but we also had the player evaluations totally screwed up when we did pick

I agree with everyone about the 2009 draft and that we should have stayed pat and got Levitre or moved up for Unger. I actually wanted Dallas to move up and get Louis Delmes or Patrick Chung. I was a big big fan of Chung that year.

No doubt, and if I remember correctly, we even got less than value for the trade down.

If you ask me, the team counted on Unger being there and then had no fallback plan when Seattle grabbed him.

They followed that up with a foolish trade - at a loss - and drafting two mid-round projects that failed spectacularly.

An embarrassingly bad draft.
