As I was headed to see the fam on Christamas Day, I decided to take 360 and swing by the stadium site since i've only seen the pics online And a sight it is to behold. That mammoth of a structure is freaking HUGE! One thing I noticed is Arlington has a lot of work to do as there sure isn't a lot of space in the area right now. They have major work to do. Anyone know when that work is supposed to get underway?

I drove by there back in October when I was down for a game and once you get past the Rangers Stadium and 6 flags the area around Cowboys stadium is a dump. Then again, maybe that's just Arlington.

That is north arlington, the old downtown area of arlington.

It is dumpy on those few streets.

Arlington is nice, I think though.

Arlington is pretty nice, but that area is a touch old. I've read they've got a lot of development planned for that area. Not so much for when the stadium is built, but for when the super bowl is to come.

Btw, I agree the stadium is crazy big. Pictures do not tell the whole story. It just rises up out of nowhere.

I live 2 miles north of the stadium. Yes, there is a plan to re-invigorate that entire area. Randol Mill, the street off of which the stadium is being built, is due to be completely torn up and recreated - with only 2 lanes per direction (huge mistake).

Still, the area is already an improvement over Irving and is slated to get better still. Probably won't be wonderful by the time the stadium is ready, but definitely by 2012.

They don't usually build stadiums on prime real estate. ;)

The Dallas site that never really got off the ground was going to be on an old industrial site that needed toxic waste abatement.:

Exactly, it becomes prime real estate after the stadium goes up.

Yes, when the Stadium is built it will be a huge traffic nightmare until they widen things up a bit, especially on the I-30/360 Interchange.

Heck, that have huge portions of I-30 shutdown now for stadium construction.

It will work but I still think it would have been better in Dallas.

I used to have a condo across the street off Lamar. (recently sold) Sundays will suck when the stadium opens!

As for the stadium. It's a monster. I cannot wait to visit when it opens. Just another reason to come home for a visit.

Yep, every member of my immediate family lives in Arlington and I went to Highschool and college there. That city will be very different once the Stadium is built.

It won't just be sundays either, I know Jerry Jones is trying to get college teams to agree to play there as well. Last I heard, it was Texas Tech and Arkansas.

That I-30/360 interchange is a nightmare now. You know, the one that changes into 1 lane when you are going from 360 to I-30.

The 183/360 exit is going to be bad too as it also changes into 1 lane.

But G.W. Bush highway going all the way to I-20 should take some pressure off of it.

Honestly, I avoided I30/360 exits like the plague. I usually came 360 heading south and would just exit Lamar and take Lamar to Ball Park Way and get on I30 west. The only one I would take is the I30 east exit to 360 and I didn't much like that one (with the loop) either, but it usually took me right where I wanted to be at near the Six Flags entrance. (as I didn't actually use it to get on 360)

The city has baseball traffic down pretty well, and while I know it isn't the same amount, it is already a better setup than Texas Stadium.

Sounds like it will be a real grand experience attending a game there, for those who enjoy going to games, I used to but I don't anymore because all the traffic, inconvenience, expense and sore throat no longer seem worth the trouble to me. The older I get the less I enjoy being in crowds.

Like Texas Stadium I will enjoy it from the comfort of my living room but I sincerely thank all the good folks who make the sacrifices and attend the games and make it possible for me to enjoy it at home.

I have become a football leach.:

The Rangers and the Good old Dallas Cowboys are two different things.

I'm well aware, but even when the rangers were selling out their 78k person field the traffic has never been awful, and that was without the planned improvements.

The Rangers ballpark supports a capacity of 49,178 to be exact. :)

Anyone who lives in the area - stop by and snap a few off then post them.
Great way to finish the year off.

Yes, I will probably go by there this weekend. I go to Arlington every week to see family and the Whole Food Store, just never go by there and take pictures.

I will take my DC and take some picks when I go this Saturday.

I asked my brother, who lives in Arlington if they cared if people took pictures and he said there are people out there all the time taking picks.

I used to live in Mansfield, and used 360 to commute to Irving (Los Colinas). I always thought 360 was well thought out through the downtown part of Arlington, and south to I-20, actually, it was pretty good going north to 183, although I went north on 360 into the fringes of the airport to get to Los Colinas.

I think they will get the local access roads figured out in time for the Super Bowl, and the stadium will be a boon to the Metroplex.

Small world, I live in Las Colinas now.

Yes, getting to 183 from 360 is a cakewalk. Not much traffic.

I am talking about going the other way (183->360) and the I-30/360 Interchange.

Right now, there is a crap load of construction going on 183 (south of the airport).

Thank God for 114!!!
