Bills trade holdout tackle Darwin Walker to Bears

The Buffalo Bills resolved the Darwin Walker impasse today.
Buffalo traded the holdout defensive tackle to the Chicago Bears in return for a 2008 draft choice, the Bills announced in a news release. It is believed to be a fifth-round pick.
Walker had been acquired from Philadelphia along with a seventh-round draft pick in March in a trade that sent linebacker Takeo Spikes and backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb to the Eagles.
The Bills were looking to supplement their depth in the middle of their defense and were concerned about the health of second-year defensive tackle John McCargo, who was recovering from a broken foot.
Walker informed the Bills before the deal that he was not going to play this year without a new contract. He had two years remaining on his current deal. The Bills had a clause written into the deal with the Eagles that said he would become their property again if he had not reported to the Bills by Aug. 5. The Bills would get a sixth-round pick in return.
The Bills' motivation to sign Walker lessened over the summer after McCargo was cleared to practice.
