Dallas Cowboys jersey numbers help woman win $600K

OKLAHOMA CITY — A retired horse trainer from Sallisaw who used Dallas Cowboys players' jerseys to select her lottery numbers won $600,000 in Saturday's Powerball drawing.

Nita K. Jacobs, 60, who originally is from Vernon, Texas, was watching the Cowboys football game Saturday night when her neighbor called Jacobs to see if she needed anything from the store.

"I told her just to pick me any numbers, and she said, 'oh, no, you have to pick your own numbers,'" Jacobs said. "I was watching the Cowboys, so I just started scribbling down the numbers."

The winning numbers from Saturday's drawing were 2-8-23-29-35, and the Powerball number was 19. Jacobs matched all five white ball numbers, and multiplied her $200,000 prize by three with the power play multiplier.

"I've dreamed of it for years," Jacobs said. "I'm just tickled to death."

Jacobs moved in 1991 from Texas to Sallisaw, where she started a horse-training business. But she had knee surgery earlier this year that forced to end her training and rely on income from boarding horses.

"I board them here and take care of them. It doesn't pay like training, but it pays the bills," she said.

Now Jacobs said she plans to buy a new car and take a few trips — and her neighbor who bought the ticket for her is going to be invited.

"Me and her and another woman are going to take a nice little trip together," she said.

The winning ticket in Saturday night's $314 million Powerball drawing was purchased in Richmond, Ind.

But Oklahoma had its share of winners — a total of 54,117 winning tickets were purchased in Oklahoma for Saturday's drawing. Other winners included Oklahoma City residents Steve Duty, who won $30,000, and Terrance Bruyere, a $10,000 winner.

There are still several winners who have not come forward to claim their prizes, including a $30,000 ticket purchased in Sapulpa, and two $10,000 tickets, one sold in Jay and the other in Shawnee.

"We're really pulling for our Oklahoma winners," said Jim Scroggins, executive director of the Oklahoma Lottery Commission. "Everyone who purchased Powerball tickets, particularly those in Sapulpa, Jay and Shawnee, should check them against the winning Powerball numbers."

As for Jacobs, she said she has one more purchase she's considering.
"I've never been to a real Dallas Cowboys game," she said.

I was wondering who the heck #2 and #8 were. I don't think anyone has worn #8 since Troy left, not even in preseason, but I could be wrong.

Now that is a good story. I'm glad someone who can use the money got it and hope she uses it wisely. It's a lot of money but not to much that she can afford to spend it foolishly. Hate to read those stories where people win but then go broke cause they make foolish decisions.

The first time I ever bought a lottery ticket was the first time the lotto went over 50 million here in texas. I used cowboys jersey numbers to pick my numbers...

I got 3 right, was off by 1 on two others, and was off by 2 on the last one.
