This is the guy Irvin visited a couple of weeks ago. I'm sorry he didn't live to see Mike's Hall of Fame induction, but I'm sure he'll be smiling down from heaven on that glorious day.

Irvin fan succumbs to cancer

By JULIE B. ROBINSON

Staff Writer

Kevin Crayon, who was visited March 15 by retired Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, died Friday morning in his DeRidder home.

Kevin's family was with him when he lost his battle with cancer, according to his mother Betsy Crayon.

The visit by the three-time Super Bowl champion and future Pro Football Hall of Famer was made possible through the efforts of Kevin's friend Josh Foster, his former Spanish teacher Veronica Karam and her family member Jerome Karam, who contacted his friend Tony Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick had played football with Irvin while they were both at the University of Miami. He called Irvin and made the trip with him.

When told of Kevin's condition, Irvin had rearranged a scheduled trip to New York to come to DeRidder to surprise the 27-year-old, a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan.

God Bless that kid.

I will share this...

My daughter was 19 when she died.

Her cancer was called chondrosarcoma.

I am truly sorry to read that in your post eduncan22 but at the same time appreciate you relating such a deep and personal loss to your fellow Cowboy fans. As a father I would be devastated if one of my children passed away so young having not even realized their future. Yet somehow we move on in this world which shows how resilient the human spirit is or how much capacity we have to suffer.
