Now that it looks like the Cowboys will be drafting around 15 it will open up more options. After watching his play yesterday and throughout the year it is obvious that Newman is one of the bigger problems on the team, he is over 30 and declining rapidly. If Joe Haden declares (likely) and is there when they draft (maybe) he has to be the pick. Too me this is a far greater need than Safety or OL right now, and usually a CB can contribute quicker than the other two positions.

I think it's WR still. The safeties need to be better in coverage. So add offensive weapons or get a safety that can make plays in the passing games. Sensa ball hamlin suck always out of position and never make plays.

There is good and bad in all of this and both are about the same depending on the way you look at it.

We can get the BPA at OT, OG, ILB, MLB, S or CB and it would probably fit a need on the team as well.

The only position I doubt we look at in the first round is WR,TE,QB and RB...other than that we could go Oline, Dline, Secondary or LBs.

So there should be plenty of good players to choose from. That good for us, the bad part is that we need so many areas.

Just keep in mind that unless some unbelievable talent falls at WR we will not take one in the first round because Jerry has talked about this before.

I think our defense would be tremendously improved if we had athletic, playmaking safeties. Neither Sensabaugh or Hamlin are the answer.

I wonder if Newman would be a good free safety. He is athletic and makes plays but he slacks off too much in man-to-man coverage. Putting him at free safety hides some of his weaknesses and gives us an athlete back there.

I also want a defensive coach and/or secondary coach who doesn't always insist our corners give huge cushions.

Im all for drafting a corner in the 1st.

If you have guys get hurt then all of a sudden it becomes your #1 priority regardless of other problems.

I thought my Taylor Mays defending days were over but Rampage had to bring me back..

While I am convinced now that Mays can NOT play FS at the NFL level, I still feel he is going to be on heck of a SS or LB in the NFL. His lack of interceptions is partially his fault, he rarely plays the ball because he is usually trying to obliterate someone. A big part of why he didn't have the interception numbers is Coach Carroll was worried about his young defense and had Mays play 15 yards back to prevent big plays. He was supposed to play strong safety this year but cornerback Shareece Wright was ruled ineligible, which moved FS Josh Pinkard back to CB and Mays back to FS. Before that happened, I attended about 5 USC practices and 2 scrimmages where Mays was flying around, blitzing, and making plays. When I went to 5 USC games this year, Mays literally lined up 15 yards off the line of scrimmage.

Keep in mind, despite Mays lining up so far away from the ball AND missing the Washington game with an injury, he led the team with 91 tackles.

He is light years beyond Pat Watkins in athleticism and speed. Unlike Roy "Biscuit" Williams, Mays has the frame (6'3"/235) to bulk up and move to linebacker if necessary. Mays wants to keep his weight around 235 and play safety in the NFL though. I would prefer a ballhawk ( Earl Thomas) but if Mays is the best player on the board when our pick comes up, I feel he is an upgrade over Sensabaugh.

Had we drafted Sean Smith and Brice McCain last season we would have the CB depth we covet. All we would truly need is some help at safety.....something Earl Thomas can give us.

He wont go that high and if he does he is going to a 4-3 team to play WOLB.

Hes got straight line speed but he doesnt have very good range.

Mays is the exact type of Safety Dallas needs to stay away from.

We need someone more in the mold of a CB than another safety that is like a linebacker.

He might claim he runs 4.3, but on the field it looks like he runs 4.8

He's probably not going in the frist round, and the fact that he's had a lousy yr and has almost never made any plays, especially vs the pass is well documented.

If we drafted this guy in the first I'd throw my remote throught the screen.

He's probably destined for OLB, ala Thomas Davis
