AS: Cowboys' Jaydon Blue Shocking Draft Ranking Revealed

This is the FO selling the pick to the fans. I bet that they really did like Blue, but no way in hell was he anyone's RB3.
Definitely, this isn’t the first time they tried to sell a pick to the fans. It’s their MO. I bet he will be a good pick but I agree there’s no way they had him at RB3. But anyway I’m glad we got him. Now let’s get him in space and let that speed scare defenses.

I’m happy they took the shot but I’m probably jaded/scorned, or whatever from too many past picks of something like “would have been a first rounder if not for _____”

Then _____ is the reason they didnt work out.

I’d definitely say that the plan is for one of Bland or Diggs to not be around past this season, and at least they are trying to get ahead of something rather than forcing themselves into a first round corner next year.

He’s not a guy that needs to sit out a year.

That’s what was upsetting about guys like Bruce Carter, Jaylon Smith, Ect…

He should be ready by July and back before Diggs who we are depending on.

Agreed, but RBs got pushed down way further this year than they should because it was just saturated with talent.

Blue is a guy in this class who has a unique skill set and has extremely high upside.

He’s a homerun hitter that can do it on the ground or in the air and we got him in round 5.
:hammer:I can't recall another draft where a group of players got pushed down the board so late. There are definately some teams that are horrible @ drafting......Chicago, Houston...Green Bay.....New England...New Orleans....Jacksonville.....Detroit...All of them had some very questionable choices at points that pushed players down the board.

That's exactly what's going on here. Funny how some folks eat it up and buy this crap. With that said, Blue is a good draft pick and hopefully turns out to be a great addition to the roster, which is all that matters at this point.

I loved blue, Marks, Skattebo. I was fine with any of them. I feel like Blue was the best out of those 3 and a perfect fit in Dallas. I was all over Blue and Mafah consistently leading up to the draft. It's gratifying when they saw it exactly like I did. I'm wrong more than I'm right, but this was too cool. We went from a HIGHLY questionable RB room this off-season to one of the potential top 7 just like that. I like the room. All of them. I'm not counting Deuce. Writing is on the wall for him.Mafah was my late round guy, the hammer I wanted to compliment Blue etc.

I’m a little surprised that you think that of Steele. I think Guyton is much more talented, but needs to be used properly.

But admitting being wrong isn’t exactly a strong suit for this organization.
Terence Steele has always been a bad starter. It's just that expectations were so low when he had to play that when he exceeded them people overreacted and anointed him as a top young player.

We will never have a great offensive line as long as that stiff is starting on it. That's why any hope of improvement by drafting Booker is tempered for me by the realization that Steele is a waste and Guyton has to improve a lot or he will need to be replaced too.

The OT position is a mess with this team.

The true value of a player at the time of the draft is the position in which he was drafted.

That value was determined by all 32 teams.

Of course that value will change according to productivity. We hope that when analysts have their redrafts, Blue will be one at the very top.

No one will care who was picked in what round when the games start. Then the rubber will meet the road. I could care less that we found Blue in rd 5. It's about playing ball. This game ain't complicated.

I am not sure I totally buy into the Cowboys ranking Blue as the third best back in the entire draft. There were reports they would have taken Quinshon Judkins in the 2nd round if the Browns didn't scoop him up at 36.

Now if they had a 2nd or 3rd ROUND grade on Blue, I can see that. You can't teach speed and this kid has it.
I think this is one of the cases where you have to look closely at what was said. "Some offensive coaches" having him third does not mean the team ranked him third.

I don’t think on their big board he was RB 3.

I just think several scouts on the team had him as their 3rd best.

It sounded like Judkins was their RB3.
Right. I would assume that the same happens at every position. It's kind of like the scout comments that I believe Tony Pauline uses. You'll have one who absolutely loves a player and another say he doesn't see the player ever even becoming a starter.

Considering the hit and miss rates with drafts, it should be no surprise that opinions vary. There are probably very few draft picks where there is a consensus.

What I am concerned about with Blue:

1. His fumbling reputation will get NFL defenders licking their lips. He can't outrun everybody all the time. They will peanut punch the hell out of him, and if coughs the ball even once in a league game then they will be merciless with punching him till he proves he can do other wise. So the early tactic is gang up and bunch up on him, but don't take him to the ground. Hold him up and strip and wrench his arms to get him to prove he can actually show ball security.

2. Once they get into head that he is a fumbler, then he will begin to change his style of holding the ball. Then you got a player who is slowing down, and then bring the hits. Career ending type hits. He doesn't have the body of Zeke so pound the crap out of him until he quits running fast or coughs up the ball.

This is going to be on the coaches to try to protect Blue until he can prove he belongs with the big boys in this league and he can overcome his weaknesses.

This is such a lazily written, clickbait article. The author references Harris saying multiple coaches (as in more than one) had Blue behind Jeanty and Hampton and then inflates that to suggest the team was lucky to get their 3rd rated RB in the 5th.

This guy graduated last year, has 4 months experience as a part-time Cowboys/NFL writer with Alton, and has to write a minimum of 3 articles per day…all according to his LinkedIn bio.
