AS: Cowboys' Jaydon Blue Shocking Draft Ranking Revealed

No way they had him RB3 or they would have moved up atleast into the 4th and not waited till mid 5th.
I heard Jerry wanted to trade down from the #44th overall pick into the late 2nd round so they could pick up a 4th round pick to use to get Jaydon Blue, but Will McClay persuaded Jerry not to do it and instead stay patient, use that early 2nd round pick on the player they had an eye on (Edge Donovan Ezeiruaku) and have faith other teams would pass up on Blue to where Blue would fall to the Cowboys into the 5th round at their #149th pick...which is exactly what happened. That's because Jerry admitted Will McClay had been pounding the table a whole week prior to the Draft, so Will McClay and his scouting staff, along with coaches, wanted Jaydon Blue. Thankfully, Will McClay outsmarted everyone by understanding WHY Jaydon Blue would drop to the 5th round even though his value was much higher.

Just because the cowboys had him that high and the rest of the league didn’t doesn’t make you right at all.

Actually it’s the opposite.

They also had a second round grade on Mingo, and had Charlton graded higher than Watt.

Lol.

That’s on the off chance the cowboys are being truthful which they rarely are. I don’t see how any team or scouting department could have blue ranked above the likes of Judkins/Henderson, the kid from VT, or the Iowa state kid.

It’s nonsensical and if it’s true I’d argue some of the scouting dept should be fired.
Here is evidence to support why the Cowboys had Jaydon Blue ranked 3rd best RB in this draft...

He wasn't their third rated running back. Come on. Sounds like a rumor that spreads like wild fire with no basis. I am sure they liked him. Probably had him grouped in the fourth round with 6-7 other backs.

Terence Steele has always been a bad starter. It's just that expectations were so low when he had to play that when he exceeded them people overreacted and anointed him as a top young player.

We will never have a great offensive line as long as that stiff is starting on it. That's why any hope of improvement by drafting Booker is tempered for me by the realization that Steele is a waste and Guyton has to improve a lot or he will need to be replaced too.

The OT position is a mess with this team.
It is a mess, yet there’s each of a big contract and a recent first rounder thrown at the position.

Sounds exactly like DT.

But, per usual, they are going to double down on their bad choices.

What I am concerned about with Blue:

1. His fumbling reputation will get NFL defenders licking their lips. He can't outrun everybody all the time. They will peanut punch the hell out of him, and if coughs the ball even once in a league game then they will be merciless with punching him till he proves he can do other wise. So the early tactic is gang up and bunch up on him, but don't take him to the ground. Hold him up and strip and wrench his arms to get him to prove he can actually show ball security.

2. Once they get into head that he is a fumbler, then he will begin to change his style of holding the ball. Then you got a player who is slowing down, and then bring the hits. Career ending type hits. He doesn't have the body of Zeke so pound the crap out of him until he quits running fast or coughs up the ball.

This is going to be on the coaches to try to protect Blue until he can prove he belongs with the big boys in this league and he can overcome his weaknesses.
High and tight is the correct way to hold a football.

The rest of the league called us right after he was drafted and told us it was a great pick and they were just about to select him.

I had him in the top 5. Fast, explosive, pass catcher, from a pro system. Blue has been a game changer since his Freshman year at UT. He was just never a feature back .

From what I gather it was just a few of the teams scouts having him as RB 3.

I’d bet their draft board didn’t have him as RB 3.

I’m pretty sure it was Judkins.

Either way.. Blue was a awesome draft pick and should easily out produce his round 5 selection.

His skill set screams Jamyr Gibbs.

Now he just needs opportunity & cut out the fumbles.
The fumbles terrify me

Now show his fumble highlight reel.

Funny how none of those are in there.

I can find highlights on just about any player in the NFL.

Highlight videos dont mean anything.

The Cowboys scouting department and coaches saw Jaydon Blue's worth as several others, including me, have seen. Just because our view doesn't sit with you, other fans or other teams and their coaches doesn't mean you are right. When Jaydon Blue tears it up this season, remember this conversation and admit you and the rest of the Blue critics were wrong.
So let me try and grasp what you are saying.

Just because all of the other teams executives, scouting departments and their collective brains don't agree that Blue was the 3rd best RB in this draft class, that makes the Cowboys and you right?

30 years of failure as a FO and you take their words over the other lets say 15 teams who had Blue ranked lower than the 3rd best?

Makes TOTAL sense.

I would also love to be wrong for the record, but sorry if I dont take the Cowboys word for anything.

4 fumbles with 1 recovered in 2024.

Prior to 2024, Jaydon Blue had only fumbled the ball 1 time, so it is not a annual common occurrence. It can be fixed. I can tell you don't like the pick. Tough cookies. Most everyone else does.
