AS: Cowboys' Jaydon Blue Shocking Draft Ranking Revealed

The NFL should penalize and ban intentional punches at the football. Trying to strip the ball is fine, but throwing punches at the football or ball carrier should not be allowed. This is football, not boxing.

I don't disagree. But until the league feels this is something that is unacceptable in the game the team has to operate like fumbles are critical. Forcing turnovers, and avoiding turnovers makes a difference in the NFL right now.

Throwing punches at the ball carrier is not allowed.
Throwing punches like the peanut punch is allowed when targeting the ball. You just can't throw a punch at the ball carrier's head or any other part of the body that is not engage with the ball.

What a lot of fans don't see is the bruises that RBs have on their hands and forearms from being punched at, or swiped down at with a forearm chop to dislodge the ball.

Until rules change, a defence is highly incentivized to do everything it can within the rules of the game to gain possession of the ball.

Turnovers have a direct correlation on winning or losing a ball game - most of the time. There is the odd game where a team can win the turnover battle, but lose the game. This is rare though.

Cowboys Jaydon Blue Shocking Draft Ranking Revealed

The Dallas Cowboys waited until Day 3 of the NFL to land a running back, but their prospect rankings reveal they still drafted one of the best in the class.

The Blue pick has been well received by Cowboys Nation once it was made. It took until pick No. 149, but could have been sooner if Dallas traded into the fourth round to take him like they intended. Thankfully he was still available in the fifth.

According to the Cowboys' rankings going into the Draft, the scouting team believed Blue was up there with the top prospects in the running back class.

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says there were multiple coaches who said Blue falls only behind Boise State's Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina's Omarion Hampton as the best ball carriers available.

Third-best? That’s shocking …. But Dallas will take it.

Getting who they thought was the third best player at his position in the fifth round is as much a steal as the Cowboys could hope for. Frankly, they were lucky teams slept on Blue and kept him available until the fifth.

Well this is exaggerating a lot, he would not be the 3rd best RB in this draft, first in Texas in 2024 he was the second RB behind Tre Wisner, an RB similar to Blue but obviously better since he was the starter, second Blue's production clearly for being the 2nd RB never exceeded 700 yards, in 2023 he was the 3rd RB behind Jonathon Brooks who is now with the Panthers and CJ Baxter, although for me it is clear that I like Blue more than RB TreVeyon Henderson who was contemplated for Dallas according to the NFL in the RB ranking there were 18 better RBs before Blue. even so with good coaching and putting together a good duo of runners with Phil Mafah who I also like this RB, these two runners solving the problems they have can have a good impact in Dallas as a duo not individually,

They tried to trade up. Multiple times. Few teams were willing to trade during the first four rounds of this draft because the talent level was so even across the board.

Blue likely carried a third round grade by the Cowboys because the percentage points given by scouts are VERY close after the top 15-20 players go off the board. This is why every team says they got a guy they ranked in the 4th round in the 7th every year. There are more players available than picks to be made (256 this year I think).

The Cowboys aren't trying to make themselves look smart. They are telling the truth. They even got UDFA's that had draftable grades because with nine choices, you can't draft them all.
sounds good, but i don't buy it. neither do i buy that booker was 7th or 8th on their board. just my opinion though.

I don’t think the league is going to change any rules to mitigate Blue’s penchant for fumbling the ball.

Every year they claim one of their 5 or 6th round draft picks were at the "top of thier board" , and every year the same people fall for it.

They did not have him rated that high. They saw him as a 4th round pick, hence they wanted to trade up to get him but he fell to them in the 5th. These stories are largely exaggerated to build up the player.

Never said I didnt like the pick.

I just dont believe when the Cowboys leak that he was 3rd on their board to get fans excited because they didnt draft a RB earlier.

They tried to do this with Taco and Mazi too. That is all I was pointing out. Not everything is an attack my friend.

Also, hope everything is going well with you outside of this team.
The claim was "some" coaches had him as their 3rd RB. He wasn't third on the Cowboys board.

The Booker one has to be true. This one is a misunderstanding of what was actually said.

They wanted Speed Speed Speed....or in their words Juice.
That was what they said last year that they wanted and they gambled one would fall to them but did not fall where they wanted them.
They also wanted a RB that was a thread in the receiving game.

Speed and receiving RB was what they wanted and he adds the bonus of good in pass protection.

I think Jeanty and Hampton were the obvious first two.

Jaydon may have been the third on that board. I think Tuten and Henderson were the only ones that fit the speed and pass catching skills they would want.

Tuten and Jaydon does have another thing in common...both have had fumbling issues. Hopefully that is coached out of him.

As far as Nick Harris. During the draft show he said...

"I just got text from a source in the war room. Some people had him as the third running back on the board in this building. They think that highly of Jaydon Blue."

So no mention of it was Coaches, Scouts or FO...so who knows who he was talking about.

Bro, you’re taking a victory lap like Blue got selected in Round 2 based on some unsourced perceived value.

The reality is NFL teams thought so much of him they past on him until we took him in the 5th round.

Also, hope your chemo is going well!
Teams passing up on a player doesn't mean that player isn't/will not be something special. IE Tom Brady went in the 6th round.

There is only "one board". When he says some people he means their own opinions.

He meant the board in the war room had Jaydon as the 3rd RB on the list.
He said sources told him that...not that the people telling him that was their opinions.

You aren't understanding what he said. He was talking about individual coaches.
