Freak Alert As Cowboys Edge Rusher Hits Saquon-Level Speed After Knee Surgery

Sam Williams Sr. tore his ACL and partially tore his MCL last July 28 — just days into Dallas Cowboys training camp. Fast-forward less than a year, and he just posted the second-fastest speed on the team during mandatory minicamp: 21.4 miles per hour.

Only CeeDee Lamb ran faster (21.9 mph), and he’s, you know… built to run fast. Williams? He’s 260 pounds.

That, Cowboys Nation, a different galaxy of athleticism.

To put it into context, Philadelphia Eagles breakaway superstar Saquon Barkley’s fifth-fastest carry all season in 2024 was 21.9 mph.

Barkley is 230 pounds. Williams is 30 pounds heavier — and coming off knee surgery.

I am expecting Sam Williams to have a breakout year - if he remains healthy. It is his contract year and I am certain he wants to get paid, but it will not be in Dallas. 2025 is his audition year for the rest of the league.

I'm guessing his goal is double-digit sacks, which is usually the floor for pass rushers during a contract year.

Good. Not a smart idea to give payers a long term contract after 1 good season. If he even has a good season.

Brother, I agree with your physical assessment on Sam Williams, but if he shows up this season and executes well, why wouldn't the Cowboys try to keep him for more years? He is young, talented and exactly the type of productive DE that our defense needs. It would not be smart to groom him and let him go perform for someone else.
