AS: Freak Alert As Cowboys Edge Rusher Hits Saquon-Level Speed After Knee Surgery

Freak Alert As Cowboys Edge Rusher Hits Saquon-Level Speed After Knee Surgery

Sam Williams Sr. tore his ACL and partially tore his MCL last July 28 — just days into Dallas Cowboys training camp. Fast-forward less than a year, and he just posted the second-fastest speed on the team during mandatory minicamp: 21.4 miles per hour.

Only CeeDee Lamb ran faster (21.9 mph), and he’s, you know… built to run fast. Williams? He’s 260 pounds.

That, Cowboys Nation, a different galaxy of athleticism.

To put it into context, Philadelphia Eagles breakaway superstar Saquon Barkley’s fifth-fastest carry all season in 2024 was 21.9 mph.

I’m not really looking forward to how stupid this guy is going to be while playing for a contract.

Can’t jump offside or line up in the neutral zone on 3rd and 4, and sick of holding my breath every time he is after the punter on ST.

Another Jerry second round special.

Brother, I agree with your physical assessment on Sam Williams, but if he shows up this season and executes well, why wouldn't the Cowboys try to keep him for more years? He is young, talented and exactly the type of productive DE that our defense needs. It would not be smart to groom him and let him go perform for someone else.
If he balls out this year I would agree. In theory given his age and time removed from injury he should only get better, but this is also the type of player the Cowboys love to move on from.

Its doubtful he is going to get enough snaps to be that 15+ dominant sack type, and is probably given that Dorrance Armstrong type of role if hes ready for it. Perfect candidate to rack up 6-9 sacks and build his offseason value to net Jerry a comp pick...especially with them just investing in a 2nd round rookie EDGE rusher.

I hear you.

If Sam Williams is able to garnish 8 - 10 sacks this year, I'm sure he will try to get as much money from anyone with a big new contract. But if he truly wants to remain a Dallas Cowboy, maybe this would be an opportunity to resign him to an averagely priced contract to where both parties would be comfortable with? We need to try to keep some of our young talent, especially at key positions.

So clicking on all of those it's tough to get an original source. Anything coming from Athlon sports is to me like the National Enquirer and then it's also run on SI and Yahoo like the 3 have some type of agreement but linked back to Athlon Sports? Googling it only seems to find that one story.

But I guess speeding has never been the problem for Sam Wiliams... :D

That’s great about the knee.

How’s his brain working?
Oh I'm sure he was doing nothing but NY Times Crosswords, brushing up on String Theory, and solving world hunger while he was rehabbing.

Seriously though, the mistakes he's made were probably more about being overzealous and nervous, than being slow witted. Hopefully the time off has given him time to reflect on ways to avoid the boneheaded errors.

Good to hear. I worry about Sam's knee when it comes to bending and COD. Sam is more physically gifted than the other true DEs (Kneeland/Turner), so hopefully that gets him on the field and the light comes on in this contract year. It would be a great boost to the defense it Sam became a player.

I just hope he can stay healthy!

Just a Freak injury.

Not like " Sam I Am " has had a trend history of injuries here...

I hated that cuz not only did it take away a key year of development, but it will probably mean a year recovery to try to return to previous playing form in 2025,
Sometimes these ACL injuries can be more mental than physical.

:starspin:

is he going to be on the 4x100 relay in olympics? or is he going to play football. so far in his couple of years he hasn't done much to distinguish himself.

Hmmm ...

Instead of comparing Sam's speed to Micah Parsons himself, who is a 4.36 speedster ... it was thought to compare Sam-speed to RB Saquon Barkley ...?

he has physical talent, not the mental talent. he is not disciplined and plays stupid at times. so any positive plays are negated by his negative plays.

I was wondering why he was so animated in the video about getting off the ball, it was said that they were competing vs each other about getting off the ball quickly! Micah made someone do it over and over to compete!
When they were asked afterward who won their matchups, I saw 41 (Ezeiruaku) raise his hand. Of course, Micah, Williams, Eze and Fowler should be our most explosive ends. Micah and Williams were very close in the clips I saw. Interesting competition on explosiveness.
