PRO BOWL MOVING?

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that, as soon as February 2010, the Pro Bowl could move to the Sunday before the Super Bowl -- and that it will be played in or near the location of the Super Bowl.

This would mean that the NFL would be bidding "arrivederci" to Hawaii ("aloha" was too freaking obvious).

The move could be announced in the wake of upcoming league meetings in Philadelphia.
Consider the source but if this happens, its gonna make it all the more fun to watch the Superbowl teams hold their players out so they don't get hurt.

I just don't see why they would bother. It's still a pointless game that's really just a vacation for the players after the season where they happen to play an exhibition game. Why would you make it even more pointless by making it impossible for the best teams in the league to even have their players participate?

And why would you move it from a nice vacation spot that's warm in February?

I can see the thought process of doing it this way, but I dont think it will work.

I think alot more than just the superbowl bound participants would hold out.

Think about the years when the Superbowl is held in cold weather climates. A good example was Detroit. Would you pack up the family and say, "Hey, lets go spend a week in Detroit."

If you want to move the game from Hawaii why don't they just give Europe that game. Nobody in the states really cares to watch aside from skins fans who are just praying one of their players will legitimize his back-up-slide-in selection.

Move that to Europe and throw some more money to the winning team so they put a little more effort into it.

I dont see SB players participating. It will be everyone but.

If they want to turn the PB into a revenue stream in season is the only chance they have to get anyone watching. No one tunes in after the season.

Except me of course. :laugh1:

Never going to happen and it was idoitic to even make such a statement. If it was held before the Superbowl, then any players that were preparing for the Superbowl would not attend causing more fans to lose interest.

I think it is a good idea. Even if it is not a great idea, it is not the worst idea ever. The pro-bowl now is pretty much of an afterthought and is almost a dead event. The best idea probably would be to just end it altogether. Barring that, something different should be tried.

Playing it the week before the Superbowl would bring it more attention. It will still never be huge, but it will get more attention. Many players already go to the Superbowl activities the week before. This essentially makes it a two week event. More fans could go and be available to attend because they would coordinate that with any plans to be around the Superbowl. More sponsors could be around to promote their products.

I have heard about players complain about the long trip to Hawaii. Certainly Detroit is not much of a vacation destination, but players have said that it can be a hassle to pack up their families to get out to Hawaii for a few days. Tragic isn't it? This way they are going to a major city and most times a good vacation city such as Miami or San Diego for almost two weeks.

The game would still probably not be worth watching, but the event itself would be greater and more fan friendly.

Stupid Idea if I ever heard one. Hawaii is the perfect spot. Not only would you have the players who are playing in the superbowl hold out, but you would have players who played in the conference championship games hold out. IMHO it would hurt attendence since most of the players from the top 6 teams would not even attend so fans of those teams would not attend. probowl week has been a pretty big deal in Hawaii.

The absolute only reason I think they would move it before the Superbowl is because once the Superbowl is over, the interest in football wans and the Pro Bowl doesn't generate the money it could. Having it mid-season wouldn't go over well with the teams. As I said, it will alienate the players that will be playing in the Superbowl.
