It's not that crazy, and is a good reason. But so is if they're looking to trade him. It's one of the obvious reasons they'd not play him.

The Cowboys have not entertained trading CeeDee. The Raiders have considered trading Crosby. There is every chance they have a potential deal on the table and are not going to risk it playing him in a meaningless game.

You’re right in that this off season the team committed to a true aggressive “win now” cap strategy. Trading for Crosby and continuing that new cap approach would signal that Jerry actually is “all in” not just from a PR standpoint but also from a cap strategy standpoint.

Crosby is locked in for 2026 and 2027. After 2027 he can be cut with no dead money.

The raiders had so much cap room that they needed to spend, they front loaded his contract which is why this year looks so big.

If a team needed the room, they could restructure this year, which is his largest cap hit, and push money into 2028, which would effectively lock him in for that season as well

Convert $30m of his money this year into a “bonus”, and shove that money forward, taking his impact this year down to the vet minimum.

I have to wonder if they might be haggling over that second pick likely involved in the deal?

Does Las Vegas want a 2nd or 3rd while the Cowboys are offering a 4th?

Are the Cowboys waiting to see how their pass rush looks in the preseason before they make a final decision?

I would assume that they would do that. It's a pretty simple restructure that doesn't cost Crosby any money. His base is $30 million, so even if they only took $20 million of it and prorated it over the next four years, that would get the hit for them down to around $15.6 million this year (including the active roster bonus).

Not saying I believe we're getting Crosby, only that there are ways to make it doable. The Cowboys currently have a little over $18 million in space.

I guess the argument against that would be that they said the starters would be playing AND they have not been holding him out of physical practices. I agree with you, though. There is more risk in the preseason games and no reason for Vegas to take them.

If the Raiders had not previously tried to trade him, if he had not been practicing and if the Raiders weren't playing the rest of their starters, then there would be no reason to speculate.

Every team is assessing what they have and then what they may need. Look for a team that thinks it has everything it needs, except a top edge rusher, to have a legitimate chance to get to the Super Bowl, and that’s the team that will give the Raiders the most for Crosby.

Chicago and Detroit come to mind. Perhaps Buffalo.

Did anyone read the first paragraph of the article? You're right about Dallas, but they aren't the Raiders. Kubiak said his starters are playing. All healthy starters played, except for Crosby. A possible trade would be one of the reasons for this. Regardless of the reason, he's not coming to Dallas. I highly doubt they are going to open up another 15-20M to fit a 30 year old recently injured DE. Not to mention the cap issues that would follow next year. That's not today's Jerry.
