The current CB's that are free agents will become cheaper correct? Mckenzie, Rolle or Lucas would be great additions to this team as far as depth wise. The closer we get to the draft and TC these guys will become cheaper and cheaper because they know the market isn't there for them.

My pick would be Mckenzie to be the 3rd/4th CB on this team. Ball is going to safety so that would leave Newman,Scandrick and Jenkins. We can still draft a CB we like but we won't have to pressed to find one. Get Mckenzie here for a 1 year deal for injury insurance and still draft a guy this year if you want. He can't be that expensive considering there's really no market for him, so why not!? Have Mckenzie in the slot for when Scandrick play safety in some packages.
CB
Still draft a CB and get Mckenzie
Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
Mckenzie
Drafted CB

S
Hamlin
Sensabaugh
Drafted FS/SS
Ball
Brown
Plus Scandrick is some FS packages.

Cut Watkins and Battle.

The way I see it,

CBs
1. Newman
2. Jenkins
3. Scandrick
4. *** Sign a veteran like Lucas, McKenzie, etc. ***
5. Draft Pick

Safety
1. Hamlin
2. Sensabaugh
3. Ball
4. Draft Pick

If the best final player to make the roster is a CB or Safety, than keep an extra defensive back. Otherwise, stash another CB/Safety on the Practice Squad.

In a pinch, Ball can move back to CB if there are injuries. Or, Scandrick can play some FS in a pinch as well.

LOL that's what I'm saying in the OP

I thought you were including Brown . . . .

Personally, I'm not especially positive on Brown or Watkins. And I don't think Battle will hold up either over the course of the season. He's too small, IMO.

Actually, talk about change . . . .

Our Safties may end up having an entirely new look apart from Hamlin.

I'm happy we're going towards more "coverage" Safeties. (Let's just hope they are good tacklers.)

I'm starting to think that Hamlin in the 4th may be a good idea. I know we're interested in him. He's a very good tackler, plus he can make plays on the ball. He's a little slow of foot, but in the 4th you can't have everything! I also like MacBath (sp?) in the 4th - if he lasts that long.

I actually feel like we'd be better off drafting a corner than signing any of the vets out there.

I wouldnt mind the addition of a vet corner as we get near camp for a cheap rate. We'll see how it all shakes down though.

They never said that they were moving Ball to safety. They said he would get some work there. I would think in passing situations, but with the addition of Sensabaugh that's probably going to be only an emergency situation. Jacques Reeves got some snaps at safety too, but he was still a backup corner.

I really think that if we brought in any of those three guys (McKenzie, Rolle, Lucas) they would quickly be the No. 2 cornerback and Scandrick and Jenkins would be fighting it out for number three again. McKenzie is even a threat to hold down that number two spot for the entire season. Whereas I believe Rolle and Lucas would eventually ive way to Jenkins.

That said, I would rather see us go after more low profile cornerbacks in free agency or draft in the later rounds. I like having insurance, but I also think this team needs to begin focusing more diligently on grooming its own talent, thus I believe Jenkins and Scandrick should not have to worry about looking over their shoulders for aging vets on their heels, but rather fight each other for that second cornerback spot.

I'm not so sure we'll end up moving Ball to safety, I'm having a hard time seeing it.

Okay I agree with what your saying, but I don't like the idea of just handing out jobs to people IE Jenkins starting at corner..Let Mckenzie and Jenkins fight it out..if Jenkins is really that good then he'll win the job..I know you don't want to block a first rounder but I wouldn't spoon feed him either. If they are both on the same level in camp then that's a good problem to have:)

Ya I doubt it too, He'll probably only play it in a pinch or some packages..it really just depends how high they think of Ball..I guess he's a decent 4th corner, I'm just worried about Newman or Jenkins getting injured..then what? I say prepare for the worst.

I don't think that they would come cheaper. As you get closer to TC and preseason, some starter somewhere will get hurt and these guys will stand to make better contracts.
