Asante Samuel's Worth?

The eagles always think their players are worth more than they are..Samuel is what 31 or 32, avoids contact, has like a 9M per yr contract and they want a 3rd?

If they ate about a third of his salary they MIGHT get a 5th or 6th for him

He was with the Pats already and he dropped the interception that would have clinched the game for the Pats in the Super Bowl XLII.

We should be able to get a 3rd and a 5th for Mike Jenkins then which I would not take.

Jenkins was drafted in the first and even though I am not a fan of his. he is not a bust so why would you give him up for a lot less than what you spent on him to get him. that makes no sense...

Samuel is worth a 3rd rounder if he fits your system , even with the money he has been a very good player and he stays on the field

Agreed, but he's just a rental for one year at this point and since Draft picks are at there highest value right now, you will not be able to get a 1st.

Doesn't mean he can't/won't go back with them. Look at Moss, twice with the Vikes.

It sure doesn't but them let him walk in FA so that should tell you all you need to know.

Personally I wouldn't give up more than a 4th round pick for the guy, and that is if I wanted some depth at CB. I wouldn't want to be in a position where samuel comes in and has to start. The guy is great at jumping routes and could be a nice player to come in on certain packages, but he is too much of a gambler to be a starter on my defense. Add to that he won't be in the league in a few seasons and I don't think his value is very high.

Maybe the lions could use him. They are hurting for corners and will need an influx of talent. Trading for asante and drafting a Cb high could go a long way for them. They also almost traded for Ronnie Brown from the eagles last year (trade was blocked because the lions guy had a brain tumor), so maybe they have a good relationship with the eagles FO.

Going off that description....

Could we have gotten that for Newman?

:laugh2: Yea if TNew had been an eagles they would think he would be worth atleast a couple of firsts

He doesn't fit our scheme. He tackles poorly and we have enough of that already. I'd pass on him all together. JMO

Nope. Cost too much salary wise. Makes 9M a year.

Plus I dont' think he fits Ryan's system.

Too cost-prohibitive, unfortunately...and that's assuming the Eagles would be willing to trade within the division. They did it with Donovan McNabb, but we all found out it was because they knew he couldn't play anymore and were delighted to stick it to the Commanders.

Asante has lost a step, and would potentially be a progress-stopper if the 'Boys draft a corner in the early rounds this year. That's just too much to mess with when the team is trying to go younger anyway.

I like Samuel, but I'd have to pass.
